Widescreen Monitor resolution.

Morning everyone.
Thinking of getting a new monitor, using an old Dell 19" (1280x1024) with an nVidia GTX260 and need something a bit larger (23") so I can see my aircraft better (eyesight is also going back), but have not been able to locate one with a standard screen layout. The only stuff available in Bermuda seems to be widescreen LCDs and I'm not having any luck online. So a widescreen it will have to be. Will this have any effect on the 2D and/or VC Cockpits and what would I need to reconfigure my settings so thwy will look normal.

PS New screen resolution will most likely be 1920x1080.

I'm currently flying on a lap top with a pretty wide screen.

When you have FS 9 running, hit the Alt key and then select "Options." From there, go to Settings > Display > Hardware.

In the hardware window, you will see numerous options for screen settings. You can select and try the various settings until you are satisfied and all looks well.

I usually fly in "Window" mode (Alt > Full Screen (uncheck)) and in that setting you can drag the corners of your FS 9 window to what looks good on your screen.

Look for an ASUS VW246H Wide screen monitor. The one I have is great. It should work well with your video card

I run it like 1900 1080 for resolution but yours may do better.

If you follow what the others have said, VC cockpits will be fine; however, 2D cockpits are stretched, and there is no easy way around that - some aircraft have modified panel.cfg available but, or you can mod it yourself. To be honest I don't worry too much, if there is a VC I fly from that, if I only have a slightly stretched 2D I can live with it.

That's what I found. VC is fine and the wide screen with hi-res is GREAT. Besides the 2D screen stretch, the mini-panel also stretches. I have my own mini that I modified for the wide screen by changing the gauge's height in the panel cfg. Then I added the mini at the end of the windows in the panel cfg for each aircraft I fly. It's set up for 1920x1080. I simply go between the two. After a while with a wide screen, you'll wonder what took you so long and will never go back.

If you want to avoid oval instruments in your panels, I think you have to stick with an old-style, low-aspect monitor. They ARE still available - I know because I bought one very recently - but you have to shop around. I got mine at a local computer shop after being unable to find one in any of the big chain electronics stores or department stores. You might have to shop on line, but they are available.

Try the Window mode as described above in post number two. You can adjust the window until your 2d cockpit looks correct.
