Wilde Sau 111/KG3 flares

Picture is worth a thousand words. Almost finished. If you look closely you can see the flare cannister inside the bright flare and halo. These can be mounted on any German Bomber and released like any other bomb either singly or in pairs. They cast a significant amount of reflected light, probably enough for you to spot a British Bomber at night.

Here is the flare cannister we are using for the weapon. It was actually made for the aerial mine I am working on but if you guys don't mind I will also use it as a flare cannister.:d

Blimey Steve, these are awesome. Another use comes to mind, Coastal Command before the advent of the Leigh light used to drop flares when hunting U-boats at night. What's the FPS hit mate, my old machine is whimpering at the thought.

Thanks Beau. The FPS is nothing, no impact at all as far as I can tell. These can be made in any colors you want. What color did coastal command use for sub hunting?

I can't express adequately how much I and others interested in 'TOW' appreciate all the stuff you are now producing. We will have to now live up to the standards you have set for future missions.:applause::applause::applause:

Flares

This will make mission building so much more fun. Dornier 217's were used extensively at night to drop these marking flares to show where the bomber stream was going. They did not pose that much of a treat to illuminate the bombers but rather as a signal showing the njg pilots where to go for the best hunting. I have read diary entries of bomber command crews shooting down 217's that were flying right next to the heavies dropping these flares. Cool stuff.

Thanks Gys,

I am putting the Wilde Sau flares on the JU-88A and the DO-17 already in ETO. Which RAF aircraft currently in ETO do you guys want the anti submarine flares on. I will go ahead and install them and they can go out in this coming update.

The Wellie Marine and Whitley (BC seconded these old lady's which kept their BC camo for a while) are the only ones that came in the expansion that would do. But there are others available for download that would use them: the CC Whitleys, The Liberator Kipper Kite(conversion kit available for Firepower B-24), Fortress II (skin for Firepower B-17F), Halifax (either ndicki's skin for AVhistory MkIII or Ted's forthcoming CC mk2). Perhaps a kit could be released with models and the appropriate XDP loadout lines etc.

I have loaded the flares as "Illumination" not Wilde Sau flares on all three stock JU-88s.

Roger that we do not have any aircraft currently in ETO that carried the anti sub flares.

I think several RAF aircraft had flares available as load outs, will check. If so I will load "Illumination" flares on maybe the stock Mossies for a start.

The weapons and effects will be in ETO and can then be used by all to install on additional aircraft as the model builders see fit and to be historically correct.:d

How does that sound?
