Will Anyone Buy Windows 7?

I never bother with any MS operating system until it's at least two years after release, that way all the device drivers and MS patches are available so its usable, Will be sticking with my XP pro for the forseable future. Got a new pc last year and binned the vista that came with it.

Already ordered it as it came as a free upgrade with my new computer, and to be honest: After less than two months I've had enough of Vista and its problems already.... :mixedsmi:

Tell ya what... I'll start putting aside $10 every paycheck - after I get another job that is. By the time I have enough, all the bugs should be worked out.

I'm happy with Win XP. It gives me all that I want. Having had a very bad experience with Win Vista I am gun-shy over anything that Microsoft offers. It just more "gilding the lily".
Like Microsofts Office. They've added so much crap in it that I had to go back to MS Office 97.
Windows 7 may appeal to the Cell-phone, IPod, Blackberry generation. Us old folks are happy as can be, where we are.

No.

Well, maybe in a few years.

After what they put me through with vista, I do not trust them anymore. Sorry to sound negative.

After using Mac OSX, and having updates that 'do not ruin' my setups and all, seeing realistic pricing, seeing how OS systems 'can' work and do cool things, I no longer see the light in ms. WinXP was and still is a powerful, amazing OS. Its clean, runs fast, isnt bloated, runs like glass. Thats what we need.

MacOSX has tons of 'special effects' that it can run without it messing up the OS stability. I dont know how they achieved it, but it does and I really appreciate it. Going to another OS has really opened my eyes.

Sorry, I do not wish or intend to go on about another OS, or make one look bad. Just saying, I had a bad experience with vista, I stuck through it for a long while, and I wish I hadnt waisted my time. I hope for everyone else that Win7 turns out to be awesome, great, smooth running, and successful. I mean that... No one needs to go through bad times with an OS. No one..

To be honest, I have been running vista 64 bit for the past several months and have not had a single issue with it. All my apps installed and ran fine and have had zero issues with installing any addons for any game I run. I have a free upgrade for Win 7, but I am in no hurry since my rig is humming along, don't really feel like doing the whole install bit again.

Im running Windows 7 Ultimate 64. Talk about putting Fs9/FSX on roids. Never have before has my sims preformed extremely well and the two dont fight. I havent had any issues with 3rd party add-ons or any freeware not working. Just loaded with lots of nice features and to me modular as if I dont want something I just disable it and its no longer in the backround or process. Dont have to preform a painful vista brain surgery and screw something else up. Very user friendly W7 is.

I am halfway between Helldiver and SteveB about this. On one side I am quite all right with the light, fast and comfy Xp, on the other hand I look forward to use the 4th Gb in my configuration and perhaps even more memory above and beyond... BUT... once burned twice shy, as the say. Already shy because of the old WinMe, I am now even more shy because of sVista's great flop... quadruple shy you can say. :isadizzy:

In the end this mean that I'll let OTHER PEOPLE do the paying beta testing and will wait a pair of years at the very least before putting forward the possibility of adopting Win7 in its 64 bit incarnation.

I've read good things about it so I'll be one of the suckers when I finally get my new PC :bump:

I have been running W7 32 bit since January, beta to start with, and now finally release candidate. I have it on two computers - the wife loves it on hers.

I have not had anything go wrong with either computer. All of our software runs fine. I think I used XP mode on one driver or program - can't remember as I have had no problem with it since.

I am not normally one for praising Microsoft, and I don't know what team they had on it (probably not the ones that did the early versions of Vista!) but quite simply it is a really quick and solid OS.

Not sure if I am mistaken but I think I read somewhere about they have applied some updates to vista based on what they have done with W7. I don't have Vista, but some of my friends say it started as a dog but seems to have got a lot better lately.

Bottom line for me is that I really do think W7 is the best OS Microsoft have released. They have really put some effort into it, and the vast majority of reviews have been positive. Its almost as if it came from a different company.

My wifes PC by the way is an old AMD3000, but it absolutey flys on W7. My Samsung NC-10 laptop is also is good running on it. I didn't think it would cope, but it is dead snappy - surprising!.

Doesn't it go "odd/even?"

WIN 95
WIN 98
WIN Me :frown:
Win XP :d
VISTA :barf:

So this has GOT to be a good one!

I've stuck with XP. resisted the temptation to get Vista even tho I built a new PC about the time it came out. Thank god for that!. To my mind an OS is just that; an operating system. it should be the underpinnings of applications you want to use on your machine. All the other crap M$ builds in - all of it - is both unnecessary and unwanted. I dont needs or want IE, nor Windows media player, there are wayyyy better freeware apps out there. And the check to see you have a genuine copy every 5 minutes... words fail me.
i'll stick with XP. With no new FS versions coming there's no need to upgrade. Maybe I'll go with Bill to a Mac for Xplane in the future!

Wing_z,
Love the emoticons, exactly my sentiments about the OS's! :ernae:

Having built a latest pc within the last 6 months, XP 32bit was the OS choice for me, 'Does what it says on the tin' which makes a change for M$! :d

Looking at getting Win7, if I can get a cheap student version, but will dual boot and see how it goes.

After all folks it is only an operating system shell (although M$ would like you to think otherwise!). It's just a way of getting to the programmes you want to run.

Casey Jones,
I test hardware and software for a living. I am a certified A+ tech and MCSE for Microsoft Products. I am also authorized to repair MACS. If all you use your computer for are apps you used to running and FS9 or FSX or both then why make the change?

I have had Win7 Beta 01 and RC now for over five months now. I have had zero problems on my personal computer or with FS9/FSX and is very fast. No more freezes or BSODs. It is a worthy successor to XP PRO. It has been in Beta for over a year and tested by thousands of users now-unlike Vista. It is a better OS than even Snow Leopard in many ways-I own a MAC and I repair MACS. It is very fast and efficient. It also runs X-Plane flawlessly at very high resolutions.

The only problem I have had with it was on some older computers that run OFFICE 98 and old Lotus Notes. It even runs on some old early Pentium IIs and IIIs. It is also understandable that many are hesitant to jump on the band wagon, early Vista was a stinker! However with the latest SP1 and patches Vista has been tamed. I recommend 64bit if have or plan to run more than 4GB on your computer. There are tons of drivers out there now for 64bit OS.

There was an article in PC Pilot a month or so back, addressing this very issue. Apparently Windows 7 has avoided all the issues that plagued Vista, and (as was so eloquently put by CG_1976) runs FS2004 "on roids"!!

I am currently sans computer, but accumulating the bits necessary to get flying again; I'd been debating which way to go, but have decided to jump onto Windows 7 and stick with FS2004 - yes, I know there will still be no dual-core support, but Windows 7 (apparently) allows you to 'allocate' what the cores do, so one could be allocated to the main sim and one (for example) to FSNAV. I'm certainly looking forward to giving it a try!! :wiggle:

I will only get it as an OEM version and my PC still has several years of life left.

Vista has a very bad name but I do not have much problems with it. I had more blue screens in XP then in Vista. I had some minor hardware issues in the beginning but those were fixed with updated drivers and the service pack.

When you buy a PC the latest Windows version is included for free or for a little extra. When you want another O/S or an older Windows version it costs a lot. For gaming it is a pain to use Mac OS because most games are designed for Windows only. If there ever is a Mac version it comes out a lot later and costs more. So if you want a new PC in the near future it is almost certain Windows 7 will be on it.

Digressing slightly...on my newest box at boot up, there is an intermediate screen which offers various icons, including "OS" which takes you to Windows.
But there is one for Skype, Chat, Online Games...and a browser.
With a browser I can do email, and a whole lot of other routine stuff.
Do you really need a big operating system?
