Willy's Calamitous Cargo Run

Went over to Marcos to make a deal with this AAF supply officer there. He some wrecked C-46s on hand that he needed to dispose of and I had some "supplies" that he could use. Ended up with enough C-46 pieces to put one together. O' course, since it was an under the table deal, we had to lose any data plates with serial numbers along with any identification markings on the outside. At least I did get a bill of sale for the scrap pieces.

Anyway, we've got it all together and somewhat flyable although Fred hasn't got enough C-46 time to talk about. I also figured Fred could do the flight engineer thing as well as co-pilot. We're hoping to finish tweaking on the engines soon so we can start back down south. (In other words, I've got few more tweaks on Gunter's Real Engine modules to finish up).

Hope to be able to take off for RPMD soonest....

Let's see how this fine aeroplane flies. RPMT to RPMD With Real Engine to keep things honest.

It just dawned on me that there are a couple of Corsairs heading this way and Corsairs use R-2800 engines like the C-46 does. Parts delivery?

The engines turned out to not be a problem. I got a blue screen of death about halfway through the flight. I'll try to refly later on.

Mine's available now, sitting behind the big red hangar at Davao. Not sure how great a condition it's in after I got through with it... :icon_lol:

Climbing out of WABB headine east to WAJJ. Looks like headwinds for now....

OOPS!

I save the flight at every stop and it was getting late in the afternoon FS SWPAC time when I saved yesterday. Somehow I forgot to reset the time to morning before this takeoff. So here I am, on a fast cruise at 9,000' with sun behind very low on the horizon. Guess I'll see how well the C-46 lands at night.....

Well, the radio compass got me to within sight of the airport lights and it was a good thing that it was pretty much straight in to land so I didn't have to circle around in the dark hills overly much. Did have a near miss with a tree in the landing lights on short final though.

All in all, I'm not in any hurry to repeat the experience as I'm figuring this fool got lucky.....

West of WAJJ at night, there is nothing on the ground. Just blackness.

In keeping with the Real Engine theme, I've decided last night that should I have something unfortunate happen and I crash the C-46, that's where it's staying.
