Win 10 and PD3 v3

TeiscoDelRay

Life Time CM
Just updated to 10 and think PD3 runs a bit slower. Do you guys that have updated or installed 10 notice a difference in PD3 fps from an update of 10 or is it better with a full clean install ?

TeiscoDelRay, I did the update from Window 7 Ultimate. I would say P3D v2.5 runs the same with Windows 10. I have since installed Prepar3D v3 and find it runs smoother with better FPS than v2.5. All being the same but for the update to Windows 10. Can't say how P3D v3 runs in Window 7 as I had already updated when I bought it. Hope this helps.

I'm running Win10 (current) with P3D 2.5. 12946.0 and P3D v3.0. 10.14945 on my dedicated SSD. I haven't noticed any FPS issues that stand out, but I haven't done any side by side comparisons yet. Since the upgrade from Win7 I did note that FPS was slightly improved, but graphics display and smoothness was dramatically improved.

Both installations are fresh and un-corrupted, my Nvidia drivers are current and I have the Flightbeam KSFO HD (with V 2.5 & 3.0 installers) installed on both simulators. This would be a very high demand scenario to run some evaluations. There aren't many high end airplanes available for V3 yet, but I do have a 4096x4096 32bit set of textures for the F7F-3 that should put a good load on the sim.

I'll run some short flights today and see what I come up with. I'll bump back in with my results.

One thing to keep in mind with Win10 is that the updates are seemingly endless and I have had many experiences where Win10 starts doing something in the background and wipes out performance in just about any software that I am running at the time. I've gotten to where I can determine when Win10 has gone walk about and I start saving my work or taking other precautions. My relationship with Win10 could best be described as love/hate.

I haven't made up my mind on 2.5 versus 3.0 yet. There are things I really love about 3.0, but I am logging more flight time in 2.5.

FYI: I wouldn't try to do any work around installations of aircraft or scenery to 3.0. I tried that and ended up with a complete reinstall of 2.5 and 3.0. I'll be waiting for the service patches from the developers if and when they become available.

Just ran some side by side tests. BTW, my Win10 install was from the Windows 10 Free upgrade option.

Scenario:

KSFO HD by Flightbeam, all sliders maxed, ASN live weather, then OPUS live weather in separate tests, REX Essential textures with Soft Clouds. No ORBX enabled for the test. Also tested REX live weather for function with no issues.

FPS in P3D v2.5 and 3.0 were close with 2.5 around 25 FPS on average and 3.0 making 30 FPS. This is better than the same setup when I ran Win7.

For what it is worth, I am noticing that P3D 3.0 has not given me an OOM at SFO after quite a few flights. This is not the case in 2.5, which seems to OOM virtually every time I try identical flights.

All in all, my system is operating more smoothly with better performance in Win10, but every system is different of course.
I'm sorry I can't offer more info on P3D 3.0 without ORBX patches for NCA etc. I think 3.0 will be a much improved simulator from previous versions when we begin to get compatible addons.

Hope this helps.
