Win 7/xml file

Hello,in win 7 how does one modify an xml file? I tried using notepad but the system refuses to make the changes.

Turn off UAC (user access control) while changing something on the XDP's, turn it on again after this.

Or copy the file to the desktop and edit from there, then save to original location. Fiddle and faff.

On second thoughts, turn off the UAC.
