window sizing???

hello Mike,
I am running XP Pro on several machines.
I have installed AD2000, but am having a problem with the window sizing.
in a nutshell, the program does not fit in the window.
it does not matter if it is Maximized or Restored down.
some of the radio buttons on the lower right edge are not visible so I can't use them.
this occurs on all windows of the program.
I have gone into Display Properties/Settings and changed the Screen resolution and even set it to 800x600, and uninstalled and reinstalled the program.
no joy
here's the kicker, I've installed it on another machine with the resolution set at 800x600 and it works just fine. also, this machine uses the same monitor as a machine that has the issue.
there has got to be a basic XP setting that I am missing.

while I'm at it, I have another issue.
sometimes when I am in the middle of typing a post,
I will look at the monitor and I'll have been redirected, thus loosing everything I have typed.
this is aggravating as hell, especially if it's a long winded post.
this actually happened during this post and I had to start over from scratch.
dang it!!!
it must be a hot key issue that I am unaware of.
 
What refresh rate is your monitor using on both/either machine?

It sounds like a hardware issue in the monitor itself...
Most monitors allow you to set the size/scale/position of the display on the CRT for each resolution and refresh rate supported.

If I remember right, XP defaults to 60Hz refresh rate.

On the redirects...
Does it always go to the same page when it redirects? If so, post a link of where you get sent.
Another maybe...
I've had something similar happen before when the microswitch in the left button was halfway failed. It would randomly "click" wherever the cursor happened to be. Do you have another mouse to try with?

I will check into it and post my findings.
I use 3 monitors, an old 19" CRT, a 22" wide screen and 48" TV/Monitor combo.
two machines use the 22" and one of those is the one that the program views fine.
I use the 19 and 48 as a primary and secondary for my main machine.

yes I have another mouse that I will try.
it is hard to say where I get redirected.
I think I go somewhere else with every key stroke.
I will pay closer attention next time.
come to think of it, this usually happens when I am editing a post.

this is my fourth attempt a making this post today.
apparently, I can not edit a post without being sent to the main menu bar.
more often than not, I am sent to Favorites
where I keystroke down the list,
eventually, I will be sent to one of the addresses.
thus, I loose all the I have written.
I have replaced my keyboard and mouse,
so I doubt that is the problem.
arrrgh
 
now for the good news,
after much thought,
I came to realize the one machine I am not having the window sizing issue with
has a bare bones XP installation.
with the others, I had gone into Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/General
and modified the DPI setting from Normal setting (96 DPI) to Large size (120 DPI)
after I went back and reset to Normal
the window sizing issue is resolved.
and to top it off,
it doesn't matter what screen resolution I use.
SWEET!!!

now I am affraid to edit this post
for fear of losing it again.
 
Argh! I can understand your frustration on the redirects.

Since you've swapped out both the mouse and the keyboard (a stuck keyboard key was my other thought)...sounds like a sticky Alt key that is toggling you up into the menu bar.
Can you try it on another browser and does it do the same in both? Does it do it with other programs too (like Word, Notepad, MSFS, FSDS, etc...)?

Glad to hear you got the sizing issue resolved. I wasn't even thinking of that since the only place I've used the DPI scaling feature is on my server that displays on my 42" LCD TV. (Yes, 96DPI is still small on a 42" @ 1920x1080).

it doesn't appear to affect other programs.
to be honest, I have always used IE
but I will try another, just to see.
now you've got me wondering if I am inadvertently hitting the Alt key with these banana fingers.
the strange part is that it only seems to happen if I move the mouse around within the text when editing.

it just did it, but I caught it in time.

I keep flashing back to my old typing instructor saying,
don't look at the keyboard,
you should know where the keys are.
look at what you're typing.

I was just thinking,
I use this machine as my exclusive online unit.
a few web sites, a couple forums and as a TeamSpeak Server.
it's old, but dependable,
except for this issue.
 
I used to have the same problem editing posts.

It would come with I switched windows to verify the information I was giving.

When I would go back to the post and start typing for some reason one of the key strokes would cause the Browser (which at that time was IE7 I think) to go back one page. Same as if you clicked the back button. I am not sure which button cause it but I think it was the Backspace button.

Of course that causes you to loose all the text you typed.

The key of course was to click in the text field (this window I am typing in) twice to make sure the cursor is in the window. I think the first click was only selecting the browser and not placing my cursor in the text window but I never really figured it out.

I got really Peeved and started typing all posts in word or open office writer then copy and pasting to the site.

I have not had that problem for a while now.

I switched to Fire Fox for most of my web browsing NOT ALL.

Sorry but that whole this browser is better than that broswer argument burns my butt. Neither of them matter they are just a collection of code that is created by humans so they are all fundamentally flawed.
 
good advice, Dave, as usual
I am beginning to think that double clicking on the text field, just might be the solution.
I'm not sure, but, for me, I am also moving forward
say, keying Favorites or Tools and then selecting a menu item.
how far it goes depends on how much I type before I look up and notice what has happened.

just had a thought...
I wonder if having my mouse set to single click
might be part of the cause.
hmmmm
