Windows 10 cfs2 Lack of Hardware Acceleration

Firstly I like to thank the Forum Admin for accepting me.
I am returning to cfs2 after some time having remembered how much I enjoyed playing it.The Pacific theatre of WW2 holds a particular fascination.

To my question.I have cfs2 up and running, but without Hardware acceleration I have tried adding to the display settings but to no avail. The hardware acceleration option remains firmly grated out.

I have tried installing DxWrapper. This allows me to enable hardware acceleration, but when I select a mission or training the game crashes.I am thinking it's connected with DxWrapper.ini settings which look very complicated.I just do not know which settings to apply.

Can anyone assist in any way. Many thanks.

Welcome!

We have a Windows 10 help thread stickied above, but if you look at this post

You'll see SOH member Allen has created an install guide that should get you up & running.

The basic issue is the game is so old it fails to recognise newer graphic card types.

I don't use the dxwrapper either, getting CTDs, so I reverted to hand editing the cfs2.cfg with notepad

- it's all described in Allen's How To, or by trawling back through the WIN 10 thread posts.

After I wrote the guide we found. DDrawCompat and it seems to work better. https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases

Just drop the ddraw.dll into the main CFS2 folder. It has some setting you can get to by Shift+F11. One of the FPS Limiter settings when set to 30 in full screen dose fix the buggy sounds from vehicles and rockets.

What can I say !! Simply superb.
:applause:
I knew that DxWrapper would work it was just selecting the right settings in the ini file.
It is now just as I recall playing the game back in the day.
Good to see it is still as popular as ever it seems.
The guide supplied by SOH member Allen tells you everything you need to know.
I am so grateful. Now to immerse myself back into the world of CFS2 once more.
The Forum is an absolute goldmine
Many thanks again.

Just drop the ddraw.dds into the main CFS2 folder. It has some setting you can get to by Shift+F11. One of the FPS Limiter settings when set to 30 in full screen dose fix the buggy sounds from vehicles and rockets.

Sorry Allen is this an updated ddraw.dll file.

I cannot see a ddraw.dds file.

Thanks very much for your guide, and the settings in the DxWrapper.ini
