Windows 7 and GTR2.

Both GTR Evo and rFactor run on my Win 7 64 bit 'trial' box better than any previous O/S, but GTR2 gets part way through the installation and then quits with a 'No DX7 Support' message (or something like that) which is annoying.
I filed it under things to look at later but has it worked for anyone????
Ferry???
Wink, wink.
:d

It works for me, though I installed it under Vista, before I did the upgrade to Windows 7.

Would that have been Vista 64 bit ........ ?
:monkies:
I did a complete clean installation of Win 7 Pro (no problems at all!!) but I'll give GTR2 another run as both rFactor and Evo are just excellent performers.
Not that I like Evo much. I really only installed it so the VLN-2005 mod for rFactor would load without the 'insert dic' hassle.
Thanks for the heads up ferry.
Much appreciated.

Yep; had tremendous problems with GTR2 in that (p)OS, from the game crashing after starting to not being able to finish a race without a CTD (Fun when playing a full season!) and a framerate that would sometimes drop to zero. In W7 I do not have those problems anymore except the vary rare CTD. The only thing I do not like is that my default screenshot utility (FSScreen) doesn't work; I only get black screens. This might be related to the aero desktop though.

Just a little tweaking of ATI drivers and it is running with no problems!!!
An indicated 60FPS but only because I have yet to figure out how to read a higher number.
FWIW, the very first item I removed was the 'Aero' deskto and any other thems, followed by turning off 57 (or near enough) background running services.
Makes quite a difference.
The biggest hassles I've had were with XP Pro 64 bit, nobody seemed to support it.
And I avoided Vista from day one............................:ernae:
Now I can load up P&G.

I sat down for once and **** ....... ........... and found out a few interesting points!

FRAPS runs at 60FPS in recording mode, but if you disable Vertical Sync in the GTR2 setup it runs unlimited.
At various times I had FPS up in the four figure bracket!!!:jawdrop:

Apparantly with V-Sync enabled and the 60FPS ceiling picture 'tearing' doesn't happen, so I'm sticking to the default FRAPS settings, I can run all the race sims at maximum settings and the speed is rock solid.
Nearly 400FPS isn't too shabby just the same.
