Windows 7x64 install

Yep it works fine ... didn't have to do much at all (and trust me I DON'T know my way around a computer) ... just make sure you install to the "Programs(x86)" folder and you'll be fine .... mine's up and running along with PTO, ETO and a separate cfs3 install with Firepower and BOB.

I'll give it a go

Thanks for the tip! Not sure I would have thought to put it in the (86) folder.
You may know a little more about computers than you realize.

haha don't thank me I had to ask less than a week ago and I've had soooo many problems installing ... just because I just don't know anything or I'm doing it wrong ... this is the place to ask though and you will get help ...so thank you to all those who are prepared to lend a hand

Hi

CFS3 will detect the (x86) folder and install it there by default. It's always a good idea to look at the path and make sure before you click OK.

The special install part is for online gaming. If you aren't going to do that then you don't have to worry about the fixes.

Please note that if you are going to install ETO you MUST manually change the install path as it will default to the regular program files, not (x86)

Thanks, TW. I installed and everything is good. I haven't flown in awhile and am anxious to get back in the cockpit.

sorry to jump onto someone elses post but im also running win7x64 and im having a nightmare trying to play ETO multiplayer missions over a lan with a friend (running xp64). I have installed to the program files folder so as not to have to manually edit the install path for ETO but most of the missions wont run, we dont seem to have any means of connecting to multiplayer games either (I understand that MS pulled the name servers for the built-in log-in system, so is it now just a case of manually entering a server IP when one is posted on the forums - or are there any 24/7 ETO servers out there?
Thanks for any help! We just wanna play multiplayer with sombody!!! :D

NOTAM

I have been working on this very issue of Windows 7 connecting to a player using Windows XP to host ETO Multiplayer games. Although you changed the way ETO was installed you most likely will still have to go into and doctor a few things up since ETO was created pre-Windows 7.

Read my thread ETO for Win7 with WinXP Host on this forum.

Plainly said, it is possible for Win7/WinXP compatibility in ETO, I only figured this out, out of "necessity", when I encountered the same problem trying to join into ETO multiplayer games posted here at the SOH.

As it says in my thread I applied the Win7 Install Fix that Tailwind provided for stock CFS3 multiplayer, and then took it a bit further pertaining to ETO specifically, and it Worked! I playtested this fix with Firestorm II one night and had zero problems with both joining and hosting ETO Expansion Missions with him on Windows XP and me on Win7 64 Bit.

This is new intel for the CFS3 community and if you need help you can Private Messege me but the jist of it should be straightforward for someone with intermediate computer skills and knowledge of how CFS3 and it's very unforgiving open code works. Good Hunting to you, :icon_lol:.

Thanks!

Oh, brilliant! I found a boxed copy of the game about two and a half years ago, could never get it to work. I only came back for a look here today and see it's working on W7 (&64 bit too). I'm having a bit of trouble navigating the "stickies", but will get there now I know I can finally run the game. Next thing is to look at the expansions and widescreen...

Well done!
