Windows 8

stoney

SOH-CM-2023
I was wondering if anyone has had any success in window 8 and getting the aircraft menu selection to view the aircraft? I know clicking the question mark in the upper left hand corner will show the aircraft. It just slows thing down some doing it that way.

I run CFS2 under Windows 8 on my Notebook without problems.

I had a few issues at the beginning, but actually these were settings of the video card only. BTW: The NVIDIA Software scans the system for known games and offers/uses the (probably) best settings for them automatically from their online database.

I played a bit at the beginning, when CFS2 was not among the more recent games on that list.

But now it is and everything is fine.

The problem is, that the game does alot rendering 'inhouse', while most video cards today offer much better algorithms and POWER than 13 years ago.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the questions and answers. I asked about the preview window some months back but never got an answer - now I have one.

The Radeon doesn't seem to - I'm getting better graphics from my 10 y.o. desktop than my 3 month old i7 laptop.

Jaxon,

I do not have Windows 8, but Shadow Wolf 07 does, and he's been having a problem testing missions that I'd like to verify, if possible, because if true, it's a real roadblock for mission building. At least on his machine, CFS2 does not recognize the extended country.cfg file that provides entries for nineteen nations.

If he tries to fly as any nation outside "the big four," (Germany, Great Britain, Japan, US Navy) than every other nation, whether considered friendly or not, attacked his flight. There are no distinctions between friend and foe.

In other words, if he's flying a mission for Italy with Germany as an ally, the German planes would attack him. Does this happen on your PC, and if not, how did you get around it?

I just can`t tell because I haven`t flown missions on my new notebook.

My Sim is so far away from the stock CFS2, that it just won`t work. I would have to rename all objects for example.

Anyway, it does not make sense to me, when an extended *.cfg file is not working.

Are you sure, there is no hidden "end" character (if something like that exists) in that file?

I'm in a similar situation as Jaxon :icon_lol: , but would really like to know. Beyond any doubt. I also suspect UAC may have something to do with it; if CFS2 is installed in c:\program files (x86), it becomes tricky to edit cfg files. If the alternate paths that W8 uses for user-modified files (even when UAC is swiched off, or "run as Administrator" is used) are not followed by CFS when it loads the files, that's a problem, but easy to fix by moving CFS2 to an unprotected folder.

I currently have UAC turned off (minimum setting). I initially had a problem running CFS2 in the default C/Programs/Microsoft Games location, so on advice from someone else, I created a separate partition and currently have 9 functional installs there. MB works in each, but there are some other glitches, like the country.cfg problem Rami mentioned. I'm going to try that hint made earlier in this thread to see if I can get aircraft to show in the preview window...

I tried hitting the ? in the aircraft preview menu and it showed half of the aircraft and the other half of the preview window was blacked out. Whenever I try to go to Advanced Info, the sim tells me I am missing a certain plane or ship that I know I have and asks me if I want to substitute something else for it. When I select "no" the window opens but defaults to the Guadalcanal map, even though the mission is in the Med. While flying the mission, if I hit the Map key, I get the correct map with my course but no waypoints. This is most of what I'm dealing with in Win 8.
