Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

Not internet explorer .... windows explorer. This happened for the first time last night and the symptoms were so weird I immediately thought virus. Tell me it isn't so. I hope there isn't some vicious malware from the recent crash and hacking.

I had just opened up fraps and trackir and about to start P2 when it happened. After closing the alert the screen did a double take and fraps went weird (wouldn't minimise) and AVG started a scan that couldn't be stopped. A reboot sorted everything and I was then able to start fraps, trackir, P2 normally (after I did a full virus scan with no finds) with no further issues ..... but it's a concern.

Hello,
in the last months i experienced lots of problems witht the Internet explorer freezing, and only be able to remove it via task manager i changed to Firefox. MS heard of the problem but apparently does not intend to do something against it.

Since two days the Windows explorer shuts down with the message posted above. Really don't know what's up there :isadizzy:
XP mediacenter (switched to professional) here.

Greetings,
Catfish

Catcher,

You did just update FRAPS. (AhAAaaa.....a recent software change!!) Problem occurred when you started the updated software?? Sounds like a false positive to me. Give AVG a slap upside the head and tell it to behave. Should solve your problem ;)

Cheers Mate,

Parky

LOL Parky. You may be right .... it could be one of those false positives or postive falsies or whatever. No problems last night. Had a solid 2 hour session with nothing untoward happening. No freezes in fraps :ernae:

Although I did notice one of PD's excellent missions, whilst positioned correctly in the whatif mission folder, didn't show up in-game ? The mission is "close air support". Anyone else experienced this ?

But back to this windows explorer weirdo thing. Yes I loaded the new version of fraps the night before but that's all I had time to do so shut down. The next night, booted up and after opening fraps and trackir that's when the windows explorer error popped up. After closing the popup that's when AVG went crazy and started scanning and could not be stopped.

A reboot fixed all the nonsense and it's been okay ever since. But it still leaves me kind of concerned particularly when Catfish has had similar issues. Computers .... GAAA :banghead:
