Windows Media Player Prob

Hi Guys

Just installed P3 (it finally reached Wales!!) using a patched CFS 3. Install seemed to go smoothly but as soon as I launched I got an error box showing

“Failed to load control “WindowsMediaPlayer” from wmp.dll. your version of wmp.dll may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application”
Did a search on the computer for said .dll and finaly found a number of them all about a year old.
Any :help: would be much appreciated
Many thanks

Which version of media player do you have?

And, incidentally, don't update to v11.. it has copy right protections that prevent, or will cause all sorts of problems playing DVD movies and some music files, and I had no luck trying to roll it back to v10 like they say it will do.

Yep as Rabu says install media player updated version depending on what you have (10 is fine if you can get it or, it will have to be 11).

Very odd maybe something screwed. Reinstall media player 11?

Look in your C:\windows\wmsetup.log and see if any lines have "error" in front of them. Just copy this path above and paste it in the Start --> Run window and hit the OK button. When the log opens up, press F3 and type in the word "error" and see if any line has "error" in front of it. Then copy the error code if there is one.

Paste the error code into Google and do a search on line to see if there is an explination.

Hi Rabu
Don't seem to have that file anywhere!! :kilroy:
I'll try Pol's suggestion and reinstall wmp 11 (if I can )

Thanks for the suggestions

Hello,
if you have an XP "media center edition" version, the WMplayer will probably not install at all, or not quite right - there is a workaround for getting #11 installed with the xp media edition. Only an idea ..
Good luck !
