Wings of Power II - WWII Fighters (boxed ed.)

Hello All,

I am a little frustrated right now because I cannot install this package of WWII fighters. I bought this boxed edition a few years ago and successfully installed it on my older XP machine. I now have a new computer running Win7, 2600K processor, GTX570 card, etc., etc. etc.

Each time I insert the CD it lags a little bit then finally gets tot he install screen, asking me to select FSX or FS9. I choose FS9 because that's what I'm running on my computer. It then says it's ready to install to the path and then the next screen says "FS2004 is corrupt; you should re-install FS2004."

This is bogus because my FS9 is not corrupt. I fly all the time and there's no issue. In fact, I just installed it for the first time a month or so ago, and I'm still slowly adding add-on aircraft to it.

I went to A2A's forum (they seem to own the defunct product now) and there was another guy there who had the same issue. The closed closed a couple of years ago though with no resolution.

Any assistance would be most appreciated!

Are you using the original fs9.exe or have you replaced it with a modified one ? I am not sure but I think the installer checks to see if you are using the original exe file.

Is FS9 in the default location?. One issue I have with WoP products is that I've only been able to get them to install to the default location.

I've installed their boxed products no problem on my Windows 7/64bit system. When the auto install process begins, cancel it. Then browse to the drive containing the disk. Right click the installer and choose "Run as Administrator" You should then be able to choose the destination directory of your liking. If not, pull the original EXE (rename the updated first) into the root folder and try again. It should then work.

Yes, it's the original one.

I did copy FS9.exe into a temp folder but I also used Flight Utility to point the registry at the temp location. It still didn't work.

Is it possible to browse the CD and pull the files off manually, or is it just one big installer file like what would be downloaded?

Have you removed any files from the main FS folder?

IIRC , I had the same problem when trying to install the WoP P-51 package when it first came out.

For some reason, I had removed my display.cfg from the main FS2004 folder, which caused the WoP installer to declare FS9 corrupt.

Making a new display.cfg solved the problem.

I had the exact same problem. Would not install on my new computer. My solution was like, you say, "creative" as well.
