WIP of my first go at photoreal background

Dimus

SOH-CM-2025
The "Kopaida" is a field used by ultralights and microlights about an hour and a half drive from Athens (30 minutes flight by Piper Cub). It is in the middle of an irrigated agricultural area called Kopaida plains with no obstacles other than sparse trees and barns. It is very close to the other concrete field I had made abt a year ago (Ikaros). Ultimately I will combine both of them in a pack and offer it as an upgrade or new install. It is fun to take off from one field then pop over to the next do a TnG and keep doing that in circles. Great for practice. My taildragger instructor takes me there for training and grass field operations, which are quite new subject for me.

I managed to include a photoreal background for the first time and also "plant" a few autogen trees and bush. The photo was colour corrected to match as much as possible the GEX textures that I'm using, including seasonal variations. I've also included an LC file that changes the region code of the area from EU to US. I did that as the field layout of the immediate area is in the form of boxes with N-S-E-W orientation, just like in the US. I did try it in P3Dv2 where I have FTX Global installed and it was not that good as Global uses a lot of those circular US fields that are not used at all over here. Still WIP shots in FSX:

I need to also make a Greek repaint for the FR Supercub soon.

Just a few details missing for release and ultimately, a shot at making 3d-grass, which, if I do not manage, I will just not include. I also plan to include a default AI trike flying around.

Great stuff Dimus! I'd guess the colours would fit reasonably well with FTX Global too.

Great scenery Dimus, once one learns how to make photo real scenery many of your favorite airfields come to life as never before. Adding the details like hangers, towers and outbuildings where they really are adds to the realism. Keep up the good work.

I thought I was almost finished when after searching for more pics on the net, I realized the field is the base of the Greek Free-Fall Club (GFFC). A Turbo porter takes off from there and takes them to 14000 ft, free fall and land on the field. They have tents, buildings, a kid's playground and pic-nick tables. Well I had to do all of these. It gave more life to the field:

I also made a traffic file for a default trike and Piglet's Turbo Porter flying off. I now need to make repaint for the Porter for the actual plane used by the club, F-GHVH, leased from France. It ain't easy:

Dimus,

Your scenery is amazing! I know absolutely nothing about scenery creation, but I can appreciate the amount of work that goes into making it. Excellent! NC

Thanks Chief! It's not that hard and once you start it grows on you. It's fun to make stuff and see them work in the sim.

Mark, it is addictive indeed. I haven't made anything after the Fantasy of Flight and I did not intend to due to lack of time. However. after I overflew this field in the Supercub I am doing taildragger practice, I had to make it, especially since I am going to be flying there often for grass field ops. It is also very near to the "Ikaros" field I had made and they will go well together. Unfortunately the Ikaros is closed now due to ownership issues, a big shame. At least it is still open in FSX.

Ive never been to Greece before, this is my first opportunity to see what its Really like :adoration: .. as Mark said its addictive, the AGN and the modelling - Dimus you are doing a brilliant job here :encouragement:

My AN-2 would suit this nicely :untroubled:

Ive never been to Greece before

that just ain't right! (i'm just kidding)be warned Ian, Greece... (or if you want to say it like myself and Dimus do... Ελλάδα (Ell-ah-tha is probably nearest phonetic pronunciation)) has a nasty habit of biting visitors and making them keep coming back for more... whether it's the Mountainous regions, plains, the coast or a bustling urban area it's a nice place to go... i'd love to see some Historic places made... things like the Asklepion on Kos, where Hippocrates taught (and modern medicine was born, Doctors if i still recall the Hippocratic Oath)... to somewhere like Meteora (made famous by a Bond film... can you name which one?) or Delphi or Mount Athos...

oh darn it... looks like i'm going to be back in modelling scenery again!

I managed to put together a repaint for F-GHVH for Piglet's Porter from photos of it on the net. You will now have a nice "Alien" Porter buzzing around the field as AI. You can of course fly the bird itself and simulate a paratrooper jump flight to 14000 ft over the field. It is not the exact same model but it's the only one we have, and it is awesome, like all of Piglet's work:
