WIP Pitoe and Wama, Morotai

Hi all! I have not done scenery for FS since I flew CFS2 ages ago. And then it was just for personal use. I have been inspired to create a place my dad was stationed at during WW II. I am using ADE and I must say that the learning curve is being flattened out, but I still have along way to go!

I offer the screenies for comment/criticism as I need to hear/learn from those that create scenery. Whether or not this will be offered to the greater community, I cannot say at this point.

The two airbases are being done separately as Pitoe (double strip) is at a different elevation than Wama.

I am stumped on one thing: some of the taxi ways and hard stands are made at different scenery levels in ADE (some at sparse, some at normal). But the screenies where shot at scenery complexity sparse, but they all show up. What am I doing wrong?

Also I am doing the taxiways and hardstands as one complex ramp polygon. Is there an easier way?

As I say, I welcome comments and constructive criticism.

Work continues on Pitoe and Wama. All the air base surfaces are in: runways, aprons, taxi surfaces and hardstands. I simplified the taxiway/hardstand construction by drawing the taxiway and then a hardstand. I then copied and pasted the hardstand to complete placement.

I am still perplexed by the problem of ALL hardstands on either base showing up at scenery level sparse, when the additional ones were drawn in the program at increasing complexities.

I need to work on land class/autogen to more closely match a photo from April, 1945.

I am still trying to eradicate a bridge. I made a special exclude-road bridges of varying types of asphalt and concrete bridges but it persists. it crosses the water from the east side of the Gila peninsula to the larger part of the island. Maybe someone has suggestions.

I think that with this scenery I am going to break with tradition and have the Japanese win by using their super-secret Bushido weapon ----wait for it---- Godzilla! I know Godzilla is a bit anachronistic because this scenery predates the Hiroshima and Nagasaki annihilations by several months. (I call it artistic license). But what plagues me and I need some input on this, which side of the Gila Peninsula should I have him rising out of the water? The east side for a frontal attack? Or the west side for a sneak attack a la Pearl Harbor? Or should I just use a giant Gila monster?

Help, I am losing sleep over this.

Cheers,
Joe
