WLAN Multiplayer – playing over two home comp

My son has CFS 3 with the latest patches installed (3. 1). He wants to play together with me over our home WLAN connection (his Desktop computer is a Vista and mine a Windows 7) as we do with the game “Alarm for Corbra 11” – not online, just over WLAN.

However, try as I may I have been unable to get the two computers connected over WLAN for this CFS 3 game. To be honest I am not even sure how to do it correctly.

These steps I have already tried:

  • Tried connecting with antivirus on both computers disconnected – failed.
  • Under Network have allowed the other computer access
  • In AVAST antivirus by “Global Exclusions” entered the path of the CFS 3 Software (both comps).
  • In CFS 3 have selected “Multiplayer” = “participate in a private game” = “entered the IP Address of my sons computer (with game running on both computers)” = FAILED
  • I did get a Windows “Blocked” message on the Vista but selected the always allow this software option (do not block any more).
I get a message that it is not possible to connect to this address! There are no games listed (and I have not started any particular game in CFS 3 before this, on either computer – is this the problem?)! I have also tried connecting to the Windows 7 from my sons Vista computer – same result!

I have not real idea how to do this, and no idea what is wrong

Can anyone please give advice – and please as thoroughly and clearly as possible - I am not really a game or computer person,

Thanks very much

Airforce1,

Look for this sticky thread here on the SOD CFS3 Forum:
[h=3]Getting CFS3 multiplayer working in Vista and Windows 7[/h]
It's right at the top section of the page here.

Do the necessary mods for the Vista machine installation on the Vista machine.

Then do the necessary mods for the Windows 7 machine installation on the Windows 7 machine.

Follow the instructions in that thread exactly for each machine.

As to any networking problem, I just don't know.

Any connection has to be IP to IP, since M$ has long since closed the GameMatch servers.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Thanks Grizzly50 for the reply.

I had in fact already seen the thread you mention, but had not tried this out because I do not want to go online - I want to use the WLAN connection between the two computers.

I had also found a similar thread help request from Spidermike in 2008 at:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?3813-CFS2-Multiplayer-Wlan&highlight=wlan

Spidermike asked the same question in 2008, and the next day apparently succeeded in getting the game running over WLAN. The trouble is that bits of information are, in my opinion, missing in this thread and I do not fully understand the whole procedure Spidermike took from beginning to end, in order to get the game running over WLAN (NOT over Internet).

So I was hoping someone might know how he did it, and could clarify fully this procedure or me.

But good. I will try the changes in the thread you mention as well.

However if anyone knows the full procedure Spidermike took then I would be grateful to here this.

And thanks very much for your reply, really appreciate it

made the changes as the Thread said, but the result is exactly the same - still no wlan connection to my sons computer, or from his to mine over wlan
