Woohoo!! Got my Yak back!

Never thought this would ever happen!

I bought a new rig last weekend, and made the switch from XP 32-bit to Vista 64-bit. That meant two days of getting updated drivers, software, compatibility issues and more than a few BSOD's. This week I finally got round to reinstalling Fs9 (FsX was the first thing I installed!) and just for laughs I tried to run the Captain Sim Yak-3 installer, but much to my surprise it worked!
On my old system the activation process woud go fine, but after finishing the installer would tell me the Yak wasn't actived and I couldn't fly it.

I started Fs9 and jumped in the Yak. The modern version with the glass panel would work fine, but the WW2 ones looked like this: (Fs9 needed some tweaking too at this point! :kilroy:)

In the texture folders (All but one) most files were empty. The files were there, but almost all had a 0 bytes filesize.

I uninstalled the Yak, redownloaded the installer from Simmarket and tried again, but with the same results. Then I remembered that Bomber_12th once did a repaint of this aircraft so I downloaded that one and copied the necessary files from that repaint to all the other default paints. Now it looks and works like it should! I really missed that plane!!

I also installed Silver Wings, the High def clouds and Cees Donker's beta Valkenburg/Katwyk scenery (Which is wonderful and visible in the screenshots) and with max detail and very high AA and AF settings I'm getting a steady 60 fps. Not bad! :icon_lol:

don't forget bomber has a couple nice repaints for this baby! They are nice ones too.

Glad you got it too work mate, it's an oldie but goodie just like there Mig21. Shame Captsim went over too trash haulers and tube liners.

Funny thing is that I don't have a clue why the activation process is working again..... I hope CS fixed it on their end and that it's not another Vista glitch.. ;)

Edit: BTW this one was added to the Dutch warbirds collection not too long ago; a Yak-3U with a radial engine. Not a real Ash-82 but a P&W R-1830.

Mmm now you have me thinking: is it worth the potential aggro to dig out my bought+paid-for Yak download and see if this time it manages to activate? :mix-smi:

I am tempted to try to purchase this baby. I have their 21UM and it installed perfectly many years ago, but with all the problems I've read about, I'm hesitant to buy the -3

I hope a few will do just that; maybe CS solved the (re)activation issues..?
