I purchased the referenced payware, but I am having a bit of a problem. The CD is populated ONLY by self-installers that want to go directly to my FS9 installation. Well, THAT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. No way I'm going to let this thing install or overwrite without my first seeing what it intends to do.

So, this is directed to all the chaps who also purchased and installed it:
  • HOW did you get around the self-installer(s)?
  • WHAT was your work-around?

Step one: get Flight1's freeware registry tool from their support site. It's just a small exe that you use to set the registry path to what ever fold contains the fs9.exe
Step two: make a temporary folder and call it what ever you like
Step three: copy the fs9.exe from your normal FS folder into that temp folder.
Step four: run the Flight1 program and point it to that new FS9.exe

Then install your new pay ware.

Step five: run the Flight1 program again and point it to your normal FS9.exe

Cheers
Stefan

While I hate those type of installers myself, in this case you'd be safe to let it install.

It installs a gauge cab for each plane, a few unique effects, a folder of flights, and the aircraft folders themselves. I didn't find anything that would overwrite anything, no dlls or modules or anything like that.

I installed them in a fake FS9 folder then copied them to my GW3 install.

Thank you, Hurricane, Stefan and Pfflyers. I'm going to try Jagdflieger's technique. :salute: :salute:

BTW, I was looking for that thread; guess I didn't go back sufficiently far.

OK, I dood it using Jagdflieger's technique, but with some slight variations, to wit:
  1. I had to name the new (phony) FS folder "Flight Simulator 2004"
  2. In addition to the icon, I had to copy fs9.exe
This worked like a charm for opening the single P-51D, but not for the Heavy Bombers and Jets

For those I ended up copying ALL the "loose" files in the root directory (in lieu of #2 above)
I also had to make a phony Uires folder and place it in the root directory. Then I had to copy digisplash.bmp into the Uires folder.

A bit more work, but everything extracted.

Thanks to all who offered workarounds! :applause:

The method I had outlined has worked for everything pay- and freeware I have ever installed. The icon should never be needed...the exe file is what most smart installers look for.

Cheers
Stefan

Wings of Power also installs their splash screen into your FS9. For most that wouldn't be a problem but if like me you run a custom splash screen it can be aggravating to have to redo that.

Yep, just noticed that. Gotta fix it.
