LMAO @ stiz !!

Tried WOW way back when it first came out, wasn't to impressed with the graphics, found Oblivion to be much better.

The Flight Sim users and developers could learn a lot from WoW. There is a reason millions use it.

WH-at?

tell me about it.

i have never done WoW, but i know some Belgian Dude who does it besides Flying.

What can we learn from it?:wiggle:

Never did WoW ...

On the other hand, I was into EQ for about two years ... that was several years ago ...

Recently though about 4 years now, I discovered DDO, (Dungeons & Dragons Online) published by Turbine. About as close to real AD&D role playing as you can get. However, I haven't played for a while now.

"The belgian dude" is me. Yes I played WoW for 2 1/2 years and enjoyed it very much. Our raid nights with 40 people, all with mike, were a blast. Also only game we had girls playing with us.

Right now I am on Age of Conan and a little bit EvE Online (but mainly for market activities). Both are really good.

My geek buddy George is so into WoW that it is an alter-life! The have WoW parties! Crazy man. I mean, I dropped acid in the late 60s, but major brain consumption man, go use your neurons for the "real" world!

Caz

MMO or in otherwords, how to set up servers to manipulate Massive Multiplayer Online .... in most cases without much lag or frame rate degradation.

:d The flight sim community needs this technology so that we can put thousands of aircraft in the air without the possibility of locking up our systems.

ah, put for that you have to have ugly graphics plus the added bonus of paying monthly!

There are three subscription options: a month-to-month package at $14.99 per month, a three-month plan at $13.99 per month, and a six-month plan at $12.99 per month. The subscription fees for the three-month plan and the six-month plan must be paid in full

and people say MS are just after money :kilroy:

You should have a look at Eve Online or Age of Conan if you think MMO's graphics are necessarily bad.

yea there not all bad .. but i thought we where talking about World of warcraft :173go1: :ernae:

Technology in the MMO server world has come a long way. the days of low poly entities don't really exist any more. :)

Have a look at DDO's graphics ...

Mind you ... this is all a 3D generated world ..

Those are pretty low poly objects to me, plus the texturing isn't all that great, very similar to World of Warcraft.

While gameplay is the most important thing, I have to have believable graphics, which is why I tried Oblivion after comparing most of the others, just look at the screens

That Age of Conan shot looks great, may have to try that one.

More Age of Conan....but beware this baby needs a good machine...

Couple of Areas

Easy Freeware Add-ons, through a simple 3rd party download utility. You start it, pick what new toys you want from the list, pick what updates you want to your already downloaded toys. Click a button and everything is installed in the right place and ready to go. A lot of the 3rd party mods are continuously updated with bug fixes and new features. The flight sim world is stuck in the zip/rar period that’s so 1990’s. This could be a hold over from the hard = real crap. If this isn't hard to install it's not worth installing.

Look at Wow’s Quest, Missions, Economy, Status, Functionality, Variety, Rewards, Online matching and user interaction. It draws people in and keeps them playing. In comparison flight sims are dead, dull and boring. To a real pilot like myself it’s like watching paint dry. Imagine a flight sim were there was a reason to be there, a goal to work towards and way to show other users some status. A place where you could test yourself against other users. That would bring you back a lot and bring in new people. Blizzard got this right. Instead of new eye candy that people get board with after a few times, they focused on story depth and functionality. Two things totally lacking in flight sims which have been going backwards. For example: 15 years ago Falcon 3 had a full camera system and playback, where is this in FSX (who had over a 100 people working for them compared to the 4 coders for Falcon)?

There is much more, but I have work to do. Just look at all your other games and ask what they have that is missing from your favorite flight sim.

I totally agree with you. Actually World War II online (which has the option to fly planes as well) could give some interesting answers.

Good game, mississippi. My son and I play. Does very well over dial-up since we live out in the woods.

It has its own distinct art-style that is colorful and gives it that fantasy immersion.

I would like to try Age of Conan, but don't know how it behaves over a dial-up modem.
