Worn Runways

aeromed202

SOH-CM-2014
Does anyone know of a set of textures for airport runways, taxiways, etc. that look worn down? They are almost never the crisp, clean, freshly painted examples I found most replacement texture sets to be. I am looking for a muted, more homogeneous, and minimally maintained look as the pictures here show.

When I did CYFD in Gmax I was taught by the gurus at FlightOntario.com how to layer polygons in order to create wear on runways. For example one layer would be the concrete texture at 100% opacity, then the next layer over it would have cracks and wear at say 40% opacity, then oil stains and skid marks etc. That's one way to get the look you want. Or you could redraw the runway detail.bmps and resave as a dxt1. Backing up the original of course. It's fun to experiment.

There's a fix for Golden Wings that does some of that. To what percentage I don't know.

Hi,
I recommend files aeu7.zip and aeu8.zip available at flightsim.com by Chris Arrington. To me these are the best freeware textures for runways and taxiways...

These are the ones I use, too. Pretty darned good...and freeware.

By these you meam AEU7/8 right? Just installed them and they are better. What stuff would I need to work on these textures, at least maybe toning down the white lines?

Unless you're doing a complete custom airport, I believe the white markings are hard coded. On the other hand, the yellow/black taxi and hold-short markings are found in taxiway_marks.bmp inside the global Texture folder. There are a few replacement files available out there somewhere.
