Would be really neat

if during this time of year, after Thanksgiving, as it progress's towards the season of Christmas, that the looks of it would change also. Xmas lights progressively being displayed in the landscape, trees outside being colored to see the season from above. Something like that would really set the mood to get a better virtual feel.

I know there are several sceneries that can be added on. It's just not the same having to fly somewhere to see it.

86 reads. I know it's crossed peoples minds.

I wasn't really expecting any comment. That itself is an answer. Somewhat.

(thinking) is something like that even possible

Thanks for reading

I agree. I've seen, and installed, scenery with July 4th fireworks. But that is localized stuff. I would be nice if, say, like the season changing colors and having snow, there was a way to have some kind of autogen holiday lighting. Way out of my league to even begin to consider if it's do-able.

I could tinker with Feng Zhu's tree_gen files and see if I can add some lights and garland to the evergreen trees.

SUCCESS! Sort of. I took the left most evergreens on the hard winter tree sheet and removed the snow, added some red garland and some white lights and a gold topper. The topper shows up just fine...but the lights are too small and need to be a bit larger and the garland is too dark red and doesn't show up all that well. Will give it another go after I take the dogs out for a potty and a short session of fetch.

Did anyone ever notice that Bill Lyons Garwood cruiser has a string of colored lights from bow to stern. It shows up on Xmas and perhaps on Xmas eve.

Hi OBIO, welcome back. I hope your T-Day was a good one.

I don't think you've the ability ..meaning editing BMP files.. to do like I'm thinking. If I'm thinking correctly your method will simply toss a Christmas tree with lights out that's scattered..wherever to the autogen of the landscape during the winter season. Am I understanding what I'm trying to say correctly as I'm possibly making a fool out of myself right now? :icon_lol: I think so. I'll just hope as I babble on here...lol.

I believe something like the lights would have something to do with XML coding? Wouldn't it?

You are correct....modifying the tree texture will just put decorated trees were ever the auto gen decides they go....so flying along a pine covered mountain, about 1/3 of the trees are all decorated for Christmas. It would be nice if we could edit the auto-gen and have new things placed about...but that, as far as I know, can not be done.

Hmm...I would imagine with all these smart people involved in flight sim, and the things that have been done, something like I mention sounds doable. Maybe someone with more knowledge will see this topic and shed some light on the subject. <--- Haha that was an unplanned funny:icon_lol:

I like the idea, and i know there are ways to assign seasonal "visibility" to some objects, I think I might just try to add some christmas lights to my upcoming Goodspeed Airport. I'll try to get on that this week, as long as i don;t distract myself with other details...hmm maybe seasonal animals like deer by the runway....:bump:

Ok a first test shot, looks promising. Had my external HD fail on me, so my FS work has been shuffled around, but I think it's all good now, so back to pushing polygons.

You're running with it. I like it.

Can you share some insight..thoughts..plans of your goal in doing this? I know what I said, but I really didn't think anyone would take me seriously. You surprise me. And, you bring a smile.

The little house looks great. (laughing) Tiny strings of christmas lights hanging all around. I wish the shot was a bit brighter. I can make things out..vaguely.

Thank You:applause:

I'm planning on "decorating" the buildings surrounding the airport that I am building (Goodspeed Airport, East Haddam Ct). Since it's all being made in GMAX, it's not too hard to add some cheer. Here's another shot, some more decorations and such.

Terry,

I never knew that about the Garwood cruiser.

That boat was brilliant! Complete cabin inside and a radio as well. Clickable bits..

He was a master....

You know, couldnt one take a copy of the textures for the stock houses in FS and dab on some Christmas tree lights on them and put them back in FS? (Save a backup of course). But all your houses in FS would then be decorated with lights.

One could then take 'one' type of tree and put some lights on that as well. (Dont want the entire forests of Earth to be totally illuminated, lol).

I was thinking along the lines of up to 6 trees as placeable objects. They would all be decorated but set to come on at different times so that by Xmas day they would all be lit.

A good Date would be around december 10th? I know that it would be cool to have them around for a few weeks like in real life.

There we go. We need members to bring out their thoughts and ideas. The more the better:applause: :ernae:

We don't have much time.... :kilroy:

I'll add a tidbit

Maybe if something is done to make things more festive, it could be done as an add-on-type World Scenery, Object type placement that we could add to the library? By doing it this way, the scenery could be added upon at any time?
