Available in the Warbirds Library. FSDS model by Erwin Welker and uploaded by "Bavarian". Normally not an airplane I would be interested in but I was curious and I was pleasantly surprised that I actually enjoyed flying it. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but certainly worth a test drive.

Retexturing the VC. Several areas could use some tweaking but it's model related and that's out of my realm. Hi-Res exterior as well. I had to hand draw the lettering as I could not find anything "font-wise" that was even close. I lowered the eyes in the goggles as it looked weird when viewing head-on. Actually the goggles sit too high on his face but lowering the eyes was the best I could do. Not many pics or much info concerning the airplane but I am enjoying messing with it as far as the texturing goes.

If anyone is paying any attention to this post (seemingly not), and is familiar with sound files. . . .on water landings I'm getting a wheels up hard surface sound rather that a water landing sound. Any idea how to correct this?

Don't worry Ed, I following the thread, enjoying the pictures, but simply don't have much to add. I don't have the model installed, but had a quick look whether I could say anything about your sound issue.

In the sound.cfg file there are 3 entries for touchdown sound. There are CENTER_TOUCHDOWN, LEFT_TOUCHDOWN and RIGHT_TOUCHDOWN. There all call for various "opencockpit_touchdown" files, which files can be found in the default sound folder. These are the "hard tyre bump sounds". In my default sound folder I have sound files called xlg_splasha.wav, xlg_splashb.wav and Xwaterloop.wav.

Try to change the "opencockpit_touchdown" entries int one of these.

Cheers,
Huub

Thank you Sir, will do!

In the cockpit image above you can see an out-of-focus texture along the inside of the cockpit. I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out where that was coming from. There are only 3 main textures and nothing looked similar until I started getting down low in the cockpit and looking at the underside of that area. Turns out it's the engine block, the yellow/gold color is coming from the exhaust manifold. With all the other textures to use that wouldn't interfere with the mapping. . .oh well. I hit a happy medium (for me at least) and covered a portion of the engine with a brown texture. Suits me fine since I don't fly from the outside staring at the engine, lol

I have emailed Erwin Welker to see if he would be interested in tweaking a few areas that if done would really enhance an already nice model. Honestly I don't expect that he will but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.

Many thanks Falcon 409 for the great interest you have on this mythic old beauty. :applause:
The West Front Team has been working for several month on a CFS2 version for her, totally new model not completely finalised, but I let you see picts on the work in progress:

Stay the livery to finish, perhaps with a second one with different serial, and some little details to perfect.

We hope the simmers will enjoy

Cheers

Looks like a really well done model there Martin. Some nice detail on both the interior and exterior. I think the CFS2 folks will enjoy flying this one. Keep up the good work!
