WWII P-51D 'Small Boy Here' textures for FSX

This is an experiment in making high-detail 2048x2048 .dds textures for the WWII P-51D (following Jankees' example) while we await the new FSX 'genuine article' from A2A. I've put together a 'texture.shared' .dds folder that resolves the 'holes' in the cockpit and gives a very lo-viz prop texture that works adequately in FSX. Stencilling is as accurate as I can find (I suspect that individual a/c had a variety of maintenance stencils that probably altered over the last year of the war) and based on photos of a range of restored and museum Mustangs, especially 44-13317 at the RAF Museum at Hendon, London. FPS look OK - better than a straight port-over.

Now uploaded to SOH; let me know what you guys think

Will give this a go, certainly worth trying as I love the P-51 (except for the SP-2 issues!). Many thanks!

Thank you Dave!! :ernae:

This works very well and fixes the holes in the VC. These textures have great detail and the stenciling is legible at this resolution.

it looks realy nice 9.99/10.

it can be 10/10 since i think the axis sign is mirrored. i'll try this since idid not like the wholes in the vc.

Meso

edit: i tried the repaint and am happy with the propand cockpit. but do ihave to deselect directx 10 preview? now i only see white exterior textures.

Sorry Meso - I should have posted that none of the FS9 model port-overs such the A2A Mustang will show textures in DX10

It looks real good Dave!
I only had to replace the prop, as yours insisted on being a black disk.
Job well done!
