The German flak towers are particularly interesting. Not just for the scale of the construction - these are truly MASSIVE reinforced concrete structures - but for the post-war uses German developers and architects have found for them. I saw a spread in a news magazine some months ago showing how some architects in large cities in Germany - where you will still find these things, they were too large to dynamite and too difficult to use regular demolition techniques on - subdivided the interiors, installed good lighting, then cut holes in the building's exterior walls, and furnished the apartments thus created. Climate control is remarkably inexpensive, and the apartments are totally soundproof due to the THICK walls between rooms. I can't say much for the exterior face of the buildings, though. Putting a good railing around that upper story where the gun sponsons are is a great way to create open-air balconies, which should be very pleasant in the summer. Wonder if they could rework the roof to install a swimming pool with cover that could double as a skating rink in the winter. A little landscaping will help with the area around the tower as well.
