Xbox Controller

I think i'm ready now to setup such an Xbox controller just for controlling external views (maybe that funny drone thing i have never seriously used to be honest) and possibly move about the airfield in first person view (or avatar). I bought such a controller a couple years ago but it is still lost in a lot of unopened moving boxes. Easier and quicker to buy a new one. I see this new wireless MS Xbox controller for about 45 euro. Would that be a good choice ?

Does such a controller actually work without a problem in MSFS2024 ? Anyone using this newest MS Xbox wireless controller in FS2024 ? If so would you recommend it ?

Or maybe should i go for another brand ? ( haven't bought it yet..)

Thanks for any tips ! :encouragement:

I bought one years ago just for MSFS2020 external drone camera. I highly recommend it. I couldn't imagine not having it now especially with my developement work and checking out airports and scenery. I think I just bought a cheap one off ebay it wasnt even a name brand one but works perfectly.

With Microsoft/Asobo programming the sim for use with Xbox in addition to PC, adding an Xbox controller to you PC experience is just plug-and-play. There are already excellent default profiles for the Xbox controller in MSFS and MSFS 2024, so you really don't have to assign/mess with Xbox controller assignments. An Xbox controller is amazing for use not only when in drone/showcase camera mode, but also provides ease in moving around the cockpit/interior, moving around and interacting with the walkaround mode, and of course photography mode.

Thanks very much gentlemen ! I just placed the order ! :encouragement:

Great to know there are default profiles for it ! ;-)

Definitely go for the actual Xbox controller, Javis, vs a third-party option. Directly supported by the sim and solid.

If your PC has Bluetooth, you don't even need the Xbox/PC adapter or a cable to use it.

Thanks guys ! I notice such a Sky Cipher edition is about 30 euro more than the normal black controller. Is it just cosmetics or can it do more than the basic black one ?...

What about power ? There's no MS Xbox controller with a charge station is there ?..

I found this : "Xbox Play and Charge Kit USB for Xbox series X". Is this something i want ?...

Yes, i have Bluetooth here in my new appartment. I use it to control my aquarium lighting. Not sure if my PC can do anything with it ( quite illiterate when it comes to Bluetooth, Wifi, mobile phones and that sorta thing, sorry ... also re aquarium lighting i have to change my Wifi from 5Ghz to 2.4Ghz... gonna take a while.. ;-) My PC is connected to the internet via fiber optic cable. (TV is Bluetooth connected)

Just in case, i might need a 'Xbox/PC adapter' ??....

Thank you gentlemen, it's not like "buy, plug in, play", really, is it.. hehe..

Given your post, I’d get the controller with the PC wireless adapter. Or, you can just use it with a USB C cable if it’ll be sitting on your computer desk anyway.

On charging, I just use Panasonic rechargeable AAs with the Xbox controllers and other AA-using stuff. No need for the custom battery packs unless you just never want to swap batteries.

Thanks Denny ! I think i'll go for the Xbox controller Ghost Cipher Special Edition transparent together with a Venom charging dock with rechargeable battery pack. One little hickup, my bank wants me to update Android to atleast 11 in order to keep on internet banking, something with security....That means for me buy a new mobile phone! Grrrrr! My old Galaxy S9 still works fine! Oh well, 2025 what do i know..

Thanks again ! :encouragement:
