XFX GeForce 9600 768mb DDR2

Hi, i have a XFX 9600GT XXX Edition 512MB, i run it with a Core2 E4600 @3.0ghz (oc) and 2gb of ram and i get almost 80 fps with all sliders almost maxed in FSX in non dense areas, it is as fast as hell!

I have a 9600GS 768 and it seems pretty good, handles every game i've tried with room to spare.

I'd recommend that you hold off buying the 9600 and save a few dollars more and either get an ATi 4850 or perhaps pick up a second hand 8800GTX/Ultra?

HI ALL,
For not a lot more you can buy the 9800GTX.Save the pennies and go for that or the slighlty older 8800GTX.

This one in particular is a bad card, because it only has DDR2 memory. If you do get a 9600 make sure it has GDDR3.

The 9xxx series of cards are just higher clocked 8xxx series cards, so basically a classic ripoff since everyone can easily overclock a video cared.

You should better make a greater leap in terms of a new card. Try to find something like an ATI 4750 series card, they're cheap and fast.

Hi, there is a hughe difference between 8xxx and 9xxx series, i give you an example, the 9600GT doubles in performance the 8600GT, the 9600GT performs as well as the earlyer 8800GTS 640 and close to the later 8800GT. The 9600 delivers an incredible performance for it's price. With an 8600 or a 9600 in FSX you won't notice a big FPS increase, only a 15%, but the 9600 will load textures faster and will have much better quality with the same or more fps, remember that FSX is processor dependant, the faster and the more cores it has, the smoother it runs and the video card will help you a lot. I assure that because i use the XFX 9600GT XXX Alpha Dog Edition with 512MB and a cheap Core2 E4600 clocked to 3.0GHZ and FSX (sp2) gives me 50-70FPS in vc with all sliders full. It's an incredible performance and a few people know the potential of this processor.:isadizzy:

I chose the 9600GSO 768 over the 9800GT 512 card because the performance was extremely close in benchmarks and it of course saved about £30.

I'm very happy with it, any card that can knock out far cry or colin mcrae dirt completely smoothly is good by me.

I can fun FSX at very high settings though it doesn't like light bloom very much.

A better, slightly more expensive card would last a bit longer than a cheap one, but whatever floats your boat...

What is the difference between "G"DDR3 and just DDR3. Also what's a bad/good brand ie: XFX, PNY, EVGA, nVIDIA.. and there are other's any that I should advoid at all cost? I will be using the GeForce because that is what I am use to dealing with.

The only issue I have is the age of my machine.....Dell 2.4ghx Dual Core....with 2 gig of ram. I don't think I can go much beyond the 8800 series....

Newegg has this would it be a good card for $200.00 than $30.00 mail in rebate?

XFX PVT98WYDBF GeForce 9800 GTX+ Black Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

KD's suggestions are looking good. Those ATI cards have a smoking price/performance ratio!

DDR3 is for SDRAM, say the main memory in your PC, GDDR3 Ram is for video cards only.
Funnily enough and since speaking of it, the only main difference between a Radeon 4850 and 4870 is the memory. The -50 uses the old GDDR3 VRam, the -70 the newer and faster GDDR5 VRam.

I got the XFX PVT98WYDBF GeForce 9800 GTX+ Black Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card and added another gig of memory, total of 3gb, and now, excuse the expression, FSX flies compared with before.

It added 50% fps - like if I got 10 fps now 15; 20 now 30; etc. the only planes that it would not help is CS 757 and feelTheres PIC E170 and the E190. Both are around 8 to 10 and that's what it was before. Don't understand. CS C130 1(5+fps) is nice now and default GA get 30 plus whereas before around 15 to 20. Really happy with my setup and up grade. Just disappointed with the two that still kill fps.

Just up grading the video card alone did some but adding the other gig of memory was the kicker.:typing:

Glad to hear it :)
And as i recall XFX has an overclocking warranty which means if you damage your card by overclocking its still covered by warranty :)

The 9800 is a good card for the money no doubt....

I'm glad you are kickin it now with your new card and ram...Ain't it great...:ernae:
