XP vs Windows 7

Got my rig almost finished, waiting for the power supply and memory to be delivered tomorrow, but I'm wondering, I have all my Cfs3 files on a portable HD and I could just load everything on to the new pc if I load XP on instead of Windows 7. This is quite tempting cause I'm a lazy ***. Are there advantages to running the game in Windows 7?

Windows 7 may run slightly faster. I say "may" because equally likely it may not, and even if it does we're talking about like 62 fps vs. 60 fps. One thing I found was that the only reason I've bought an Nvidia card for, the texture-based specular shine, doesn't work in Windows 7. Terrain lighting effects are also absent - the landscape looks like an old carpet instead of the compilation of fields, forests and rivers like it does in XP. Not that this affects ATI customers in any way as that's how their CFS3 has always looked like.

Not that I can think of, and I have both Win7 64-bit and XP on my dual-boot rig. Give the rig enough memory and XP and Win7 will run CFS3 equally well - ie 3GB or more.

I like Win 7 for reasons other than CFS3, but it's great to think this old combat sim still runs under the latest version of Windows - including online multiplayer.

One other thing that makes xp better for CFS3..... the UAC (user account control) function in vista and w7 does not allow batch files, used for switching spawns, global layer files, etc. for various addons (e.g. ETO), to work properly without doing a bunch of extra steps.

I've installed CFS3 on my daughters laptop W7 64, no problems installing and running, in-fact it runs very well!
But, this lack of specular shine just kills it for me, it's a big step backward AFAIC, I'm surprised there is no fix?
