Yay! I modified my first airport

I know that this is the equivalent to coloring inside the square in pre-school (I couldn't do it back then either :icon_lol:), but I added some lights and markings to Richards Filed (04FA) in Homestead, FL. I'm using it as my base in Cargo Pilot. I got tired of having "missed approaches" because at night I couldn't find the runway until it was too late.

I used AFCAD. It was soo easy. Originally the airport is a grass field with no lights or markings. Now it has a very unrealistic set of light and markings. Once I figure out what all of those approach light systems mean I select a more appropriate one.

I also need to look into putting a hangar there or something to make it look like an air freight company is being run out of that joint until I get more money to run my business out of a bigger field.

I would also suggest changing the surface to asphalt or concrete. If you can handle the lights, you can handle that too. Read through the help file regarding ramp polygons too. As for adding anything above ground, you'll need a different app for that. As long as I've been doing this, that's something I've never dug into.

Thanks guys! My wife asked me if I was going to print the picture and post on the refrigerator door. Hahaha!!!

I think I would start with Runway12. It can be found at FlightSim and Avsim I think. I'm sure others will have their own favorite program. Problem, at least it seems to me, is that each program has its strengths and weaknesses. I wound up using about three different programs to do one scenery addon.

As far as adding scenery objects, as RD noted everyone has their favorites. Mine is Instant Scenery (payware) and I use AFX (payware) to handle all the AFCAD alterations because it functions for both FS9 and FSX, where Lee Swordy's AFCAD doesn't. I might have gone with ADE, but at the time I started doing scenery ADE was not at all user friendly. Also, SBuilder is an excellent program for doing all sorts of ground/water poly's, redoing airport boundaries and adding photoreal ground textures. Finally, TCalc is a great utility for setting correct altitudes for rwy's and poly's. TCalc and SBuilder can be found on the downloads page over at FSDeveloper.com. Happy scenery building!!:salute:
