Hello,

Out of the blue, I have a temp file on my desktop called "vgotzkmbdm.tmp". I delete it - but every time I launch a new browser window, or reboot, it comes back. Have done a scan (Webroot) - doesn't find anything.

running XP, all systems seem to run fine.

I looked for a "general pc" section - mod, please feel free to redirect.

any help would be appreciated.

Google doesn't throw anything up, so it's probably a randomly generated name. No idea where it's from.

What folder is this .tmp file in? How big is the file?

E-Mail me and maybe we can work this out. My E-Mail has changed since the last time we talked. My new one is radked"at"sourcecable.net

Success!

Webroot wanted their toolbar inserted into browser. As a minimalist, I don't want toolbars or any other junk hanging off my browser, and I selected it "off". I enabled it, deleted the file, emptied my trash can, and then disabled it - gone for good.

Weird ...

I found it by scanning my "C" - and seeing a temp file in my Webroot folder made me think it had to do with Webroot - have to admit, it was lucky, because as Andy points out, it has a random name - the name I found in the Webroot folder was different than the one in question.

Anyway - happy ending. Don - good to hear from you. How's the brood? We have a new one since we last chatted - a year old in two weeks. The oldest is going to school next year - crazy, how time flies....
