Looks very much like the replica one I bought 10+ years ago. I think I'd want the right to a refund if it turns out not to be an original. Hmmm, wonder if Leo Opdycke would know?

Richthofen got his in 1917 :). Of the 86 awarded in 1916, only 13 went to fighter pilots, and the rest went to the army, navy, etc. I originally goofed and thought the Blue Max was only awarded to the air force!

So it was exciting to see that on eBay, and I immediately thought it was from a pilot. But probably not :(

You can't do any proper strutting without the proper music. Plus most of us can't afford the $1,750 for the medal.

What we need is a good Prussian Military March Tune. Did they ever write a concherto for the Tuba ? :monkies:
 
Maybe I'll buy it and add it to the five I've already got. That and the Iron Cross (with Diamonds, Swords, and Oakleaves) and Tiffany-style Medal of Honor.

C'mon, if it's real, it should be on display in a museum somewhere, not held in some collector's dresser drawer, only to be brought out and worn when he (or she:a1089:) is playing OFF BHAH.

The seller added more details to the item in the Q&A section: "I don’t own this PLM, I’m selling it for a friend from Holland. He confirms it’s an end 1916 piece, belonged to the German nobility family of Konrad Kalau von Hofe (captain of the infantry, who died in April 1917)."

Weird that the Pour Le Merite website doesn't have him listed, but I found somewhere else that Hofe received his medal on July 23 1916. Mystery solved! :)
 
That was awesome WF2! I've never seen anyone play a tuba like that. I think I'll stick with the bass that has strings. I never could get into an instrument that I had to blow on.

Vizz a little shame, I confess, zatt der Blaue Max above was mine; see my ssread from 1. Januar. I vass just short of mony, when ze OFF-Team suddenly (and totally unexpected!) announced ze releaze of der P3.
I had to make der choice - P3 or ze medal. At Ebay, I got 50 Dollarz for it. And I could not resist.
But I vill climb into my Albatros as soon as P3 is here, and get me anozzer "Blue Max", for ze sake of ze Kaizer and ze Fazzerland!
