Crashaz put Newshawks, but I thought it deserved some SPECIAL attention here.

Watching this with a powerful sub-woofer was an incredible experience.

Now, for those who don't know...Devildog73 and I (with Devildog doing much of the initial work) collaborated on this campaign for CFS2 for two years. The first incarnation is in the SOH archives (Parts I, II, and III, anyway) and Part IV is in the library. However, all of the missions have now been revamped over the past several months, and all the newest scenery has been included, including Ettico's Berlin and Ploesti EuroTargets, GSL ports, as well as Jean Bomber's Pantelleria scenery and his soon to be released Afnor, Part II. It is the latter I am waiting for to release the campaign, with full permission from Devildog.

The campaign now is 104 missions in length from start to finish, and takes you from Casablanca, Morocco in April of 1943 across to Tunisia, then Pantelleria and Sicily. Following that, you support the lands at Salerno and Anzio, coupled with many ground attack missions throughout the fall of 1943, and into the winter and spring of 1944. During the summer of 1944, the campaign and the movie dovetail, you spend much of the remainder of the campaign escorting bombers, though you still fly several ground attack and sweep missions along the way.
 
Gee it's about time they make a movie about fighter pilots in WW2. I been getting tired of watching Top Gun as the only good movie I can remember. XD
 
Y'all KNOW I am going to be looking for that film in 2012!!

Hope I can get it on DVD or BluRay in Germany! Our theaters won't have it as soon as those in the States.
 
Hate to throw a wet rag on this one but history and hollywood are a terrible mix. Luke and the dark side - it’s a great flic but am I the only one who is suspicious?

Yes, no doubt - it's a stunning clip (thank you Rami) and yes, too, I must see this one. But as far as actual history let the scholars judge (some of which are here).

Ali cat, i think we're all old enough and wise enough to know by now that producers of historical works take a fair amount of artistic license. Every "historical", American-made war movie you've ever seen in your life was made in Hollywood. Why voice that concern on this one? A preemptive strike, maybe? :mixedsmi:

It's not too bad an action flick IF you take out all the Mushy scenes... but it gets a lot shorter by design :icon_lol:

Good morning,

Look on the bright side, fellas. At least Hollywood can't be accused of "Americanization" in this film, because it is an American story. I heard that U-571 caused an uproar in Britain, because it consisted of an American crew capturing an Enigma machine. That was legitimate, because it was largely a British effort.
 
Sorry guys but I’m not walking this one back. Rami, I liked your response - a good point. If it’s Hollywood hooey or not I guess we’ll see. Bearcat - if we’ve crossed swords on this one I don’t see that as bad.

For the sake of constructive discussion (maybe?) we could speak of the movies that did kind’a sort’a get it right. My favorites are "Platoon" and "Das Boot" and it’s just an opinion.

No one asked for a "walk-back" dude, just wanted to know why we're expected to have preconcieved suspicions ( ..."but am I the only one who is suspicious" ) about this particular film that's not even released yet. Is it the controversial topic, or the producers, or both?

As far as forming a fair opinion about "getting it right", at this early stage we don't know what we're really talking about, my friend. "Platoon" and "Das Boot" were fictional works derived from novels based on the accounted, collective experiences of the many who were involved in the battles of those wars. They weren't intended to be actual historical re-enactments of known events nor do they represent any particular unit by name. There's really nothing to "suspect" about them in terms of accuracy, hence they don't fit into a discussion about accuracy.

Judging by the Red Tails trailer, this film would promise to convey the real experiences one actual, historical combat group - but will it? We don't know yet to give an opinion. And unless we were there in their shoes, how do we judge what we'll eventually see on screen for accuracy (to your point)? But again i ask, since that question can be asked about any non-fiction, historically-based war movie to date, why are we to fret this one?
 
Looks like someone doesn't know much about Historical films.

You want a pretty good take on historic films? Watch Tora Tora Tora.

IMO it's one of the classics telling the story of Pearl Harbor from both sides.

I just watched the trailer. Questions of historical accuracy and/or Hollywood-hype aside, all I saw was tons of computer graphics. Hell, I don't have to go to the cinema for that; it's right here in CFS2! :icon_lol:

I caught the Newshawks thread on this movie (Red Tails), and I'll say here what I said there: I'm going to wait until I see the film to pass judgement.

there are not movies withoout fiction, so what movie is really historical? if u are a war movie maker , u gonna put emotions in one side and irrational cold face to the other side , the movie is done and u sale it. not always is about money , but close. unfortunately end up putting in doubt true heroes.
 
Tora Tora Tora makes the other Parole Harbor movie look like a bad once sided romance story XD either way it's Hollywood in this day an age the more the dramatic or appealing the more the sell their bloody ticks so the sad news is I'll watch it because of the story they got is appealing but in the end we all know hollywood just gonna hype it up to fit the general audience >_______>
 
In one way it is understandable. An obvious point but big flics mean big buck’s and so, for a return, a big audience is needed. I only mentioned "Platton" and "Das Boot" because these are two were I firmly believe that artistic license was well used (I refrained from for mentioning "The Thin Red Line" - a very special case).

To those of us who dig - to those of us who want to know, we struggle with the dramatizations. The scholar cannot be perfect. It is an impossible task. But from his lonely and lost evenings he gives us all we have. And again I say some of them are here.
