Seems, I'll have to update my rig. But I'm not the expert for PCU and vid cards. So I thought, we could have a thread, were all posts tell the others:

1. what CPU do you use
2. what video card
3. how much memory
and
4. how high are your sliders for aircraft, terrain, clouds etc. set

Please, just a four-line answer, so it can be quickly compared?

Oldham, I think I am the only one here with the new I7 Quad Core, so I'll let you know how it goes. I hope it goes well, it looks like a monster so far. But nothing is loaded yet, only XPSP3, and MSOffice... ho-hum.

My Dell is five years old:

Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz
4 MB RAM
ATI RADEON X850 Pro (256 MB)

Installed P3 as soon as it arrived yesterday and flew a mission with everything as it defaulted. The sliders defaulted to...

All 2's, except clouds at 1

I don't know if the install takes a look at your machine and sets the sliders accordingly or not, but that's where they were set and that's where I'm leaving them, for now.

I thought I'd read that P3 would automatically determine your screen resolution and set it to that but it didn't. I've got my 24" Samsung widescreen set to 1920x1200 but P3 defaulted to 800x600. It wasn't pretty. But I set P3 to 1920x1200 and it's beautiful, even with the sliders so low. I also had to set P3 from 4:3 to 16:10 viewing.

I'm still hoping to acquire a new PC this year so that I can get the sliders adjusted higher.

While taking off with my squad (6-8 birds in all) I get a drop in frames to high teens low twenties, but once in the air, getting around 40 to 50 FPS. One big furball, over an aerodrome I was getting consistent 35 to 40. Sliders at 5,5,3,3,5,3.
