Your Opinion: Favourite Squadron for Campaign?

Hello gents and ladies,

From my other thread I learned that the amount of A2A action you get in a Campaign depends on date and place (makes sense from a historic perspective, but perhaps not as intuitive from a gaming perspective).

So I thought I'd take the liberty to start a new thread and ask those that have been flying this sim for a a little or a long while what their favourite Campaign has been
i.e. date, locale, squadron, and any other details you'd like to share.

If I'm repeating something already achieved elsewhere, I apologize, redirect me, and let this thread die a short death:amen:.
If not, and there is some good feedback, better for us newbies I say (and others perhaps?) .

So... your experience counts!

EDIT: I should preface my question by saying I do have my favourite squadrons from stories and experiences in other sims (such as RFC 56 -- Long live Albert Ball!), but am also hoping to be exposed through this thread to less well known/published outfits that play well in OFF campaigns too.

I happen to like also RFC-56, your Se5 can out turn many german fighters i noticed.. although ive only been playing a while, my only gripe would be whoever convinced the British high command to install one machine gun on their Se5 is beyond me (the germans with 2 give a little more firepower to the mix)
and i would have to say in my oppinion, there gives good battles in that sector, compared to say Alsace where it really is 'all quiet on the western front'

just my 2 cents worth :ernae:

Blue781,

Have you got the right aircraft?

The se5a has 1 Lewis firing over the top wing on a foster mount and 1 Vickers firing through the propeller, also I have found that the se5a is really effective against the albatros in april 1917, although I hate the pfalz.

Thanks

Yes I have the right aircraft, two total machine guns! (its mounted on the top wing..my mistake)... sorry about the misinformation.. Although i do have to say it Gives the Albatross a good run for its money..

Before someone gets their Day Ruined, read or translate ( whichever )

The STICKY OFF Tips & Cheats #10 :kilroy:

Have only "campaigned" on German side yet. Here was the action:

1916 (September): JaSta 2 (Boelke, later Richthofen, and other aces) / Bertincourt - earliest Albatros D II, I believe. Nothing to fear but the SPAD's, for my opinion

1917: JaSta 5 (Both Richthofens and other aces) / Brayelles - Albatros D III

Have fun. Olham

Thanks Olham,
According to the list mentioned in "STICKY OFF Tips & Cheats #10", J2 in Sept'16 has the AlbDI, and doesn't get DII till Jan'17. On that list, Jasta 19 is the earliest AlbDII at Dec 1916.

But compiled lists can be incorrect, I will check in game tonight! von Heimlich returns from the grave!

The early and middle years are quite fun to fly, almost like slow motion aerial ballet, but with combat...

1917: JaSta 5 (Both Richthofens and other aces) / Brayelles - Albatros D III

Olham

Neither Manfred or Lothar ("both" Olham??? Were 3 Richthofens in "Luftstreitkräfte"!-Manfred, Lothar and Wolfram) or Wolfram never flew with Jasta 5! (btw "Jasta= Jagdstaffel", not "JaSta"!)

Manfred flew only with FFA 69, KG II, Jasta 2, after it directly with Jasta 11 and JG I (JG I formed Jasta 4, Jasta 6, Jasta 10 and Jasta 11), Lothar only with KG 4 and Jasta 11 (part of JG I - Jagdgeschwader I) and Wolfram only with Jasta 11...

I've flown Jasta 69, Feb/Mar 1918 in Alb DVa. Lots of Camels and SPAD 13's, I'm usually very outnumbered.

I´m looking forward to Phase 3 and famous black Albatros and Fokkers from Jasta 7 and black and white Fokkers from Jasta 40!:kilroy:

My mistake, Baron von Chlum; didn't look it up yet, but I think, you're right; I flew with Jasta 11 in Brayelles then (must check later) with Manfred and Lothar von Richthofen. I don't know, when Wolfram joined in. Sorry.

Jasta 2 has Albatros D II, although it should be D I first. The OFF dev's may know, why?

Wolfram arrives 04/04/18.
We didn't build a DI - so many aeroplanes, so little time. And be happy that you have to fly a DII in place of a DI -:blind: pilot vision out of the latter was terrible.

Mostly a DR1

With Jasta 2,7, 11, and 26. Usually around June 1918, I like the warm weather as I can get a bit of sun to work on my tan.

Cheers,

Thank you, SHREDWARD, wasn't meant to be a complaint - I like my D II, as it is. Good fighter for the time.

British_eh, try a D II in 1916 for a change. Could it be, that everyone round here has a favourite time, he always plays, maybe even with the same plane? First, I always again entered Jasta 11 and flew D III's. But now, I realise, that stepping back in time didn't give me a disadvantage - the D II in it's time is great.
I haven't found the time to "campaign" the later ones yet - Dr.I, Pfalz, D VII (but will do one day); and the last and most difficult step would then be the E III, back in 1915.
And then, there would be all the Allied planes to experience. So, P2 could well last for another year for me, at least. (Now, all the unpatient youngsters would sure like to stone me again - if they could find me. Berlin's big! Lol!!!)

I do not care aslong it is on German side. Sorry but never played any campaign on the other side.
But maybe I will get a try when there will be an Belgian escadrille, side by side, with Willy Coppens getting the balloons. :amen:

Noworries, didn't think it was, hope you enjoy the DII.
