    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

YouTube to kill IE6 ssupport on March 13

I installed Mozilla Firefox because I was so damn tired of IE being popjacked off to the land of the trojan alerts. Within 10 minutes of installation, I knew I was never going back to IE. I know some websites have trouble with FF, but I think it's great and they need to get with the times. Between FF and Avast!'s free anti-virus, I'm not having to redo my hard-drive every six months like I used to with IE and CA antivirus.
 
We have to keep IE6 at work because our build of JD Edwards doesn't support later versions.
 
The constant YouTube "upgrade your browser" prompts every time I opened an airplane or music vid were what drove me to post my Browser Preferences thread here. That, and my current IE6 install refusing to play news vids at FoxNews.com. :frown:
 
Well, gentlemen...

At the risk of sounding stupid, I'm still using IE6 and, if it was not for those nagging messages, I would not complain.

All the browser that Youtube so tactfully points to me are not supporting W98SE.

So, I should throw to the bin a perfectly working machine so that Youtube could bother me with new bells and whistles that I never needed to begin with.

The funny thing is that, when I went looking for a substitude, I would see post sniggering IE6 users («I didn't know they knew how to make a screen capture and post it!»), calling us a «menace to security», even accusing us of «holding the hole WEB community ten years behind». In some cases, it is borderline hatrid. Most of these posts where made by self-proclaimed WEB masters.

And then my antivirus would pop, signaling that, on one of those supposedly «secured» site, a virus was attempting to get on my machine!:kilroy:

The security menace is coming from dim wit who think that because they have the latest harware and software, they're immune to hacking.

P.S.- By the way; do you really think that developping countries can afford changing their OS every five years just to simplify Microsofts' job?
 
The true menace to the internet is people not using common sense - regardless of the age and soft-/hardware at their fingertips.

Still, I think killing support for old stuff at one point is the right way to go. Keep the code lean, do stuff diferently, etc...
 
The latest version of IE that I've got is IE6. I used it all the time up until I switched to Firefox a few months back.
 
I have 8 on my computers, but use Mozilla for most of my browsing.. I am amazed at how many there are that still use 6.
 
Last time I checked IE 6 was the top browser tell last month when it was passed by IE8.

I'm unhappey with Firefox 3.0.18 that I have. The thing eat RAM twice as much as IE6. Hange up when I close it. I have to Ctrl Alt Del the damm thing to close it.

I'm unhappy with IE6 too right now as I can't watch most videos but I can still watch them on youtube. WTF is up with that.
 
IE6 was the best. The only reason I installed IE8 was the future loss of support. IE7 sucked big time... and 8 ain't much better. :frown:
