Zeppelin any where

Hello All,

I have been away from the forums for sometime now and recently starting reading post about OFF3 and I have checked out a few of the film threads about all the new stuff, I do however see or rather have not seen any sight of a Zeppelin in any of the new WWI air sims. Maybe I have missed something some where, or rather missed seeing a Zeppelin some where?? The Zeppelins were used by Germany to bomb major cities, so why hasn't a Zeppelin made it into any of the new WW1 Sims??
Is anyone working on a Zeppelin for OFF3??
I recently purchased First Eagles Gold edition and no sign of a Zep there either.......
It sure would be nice to do a little Zep hunting.................:jump:

Thank you for your time and help,
Darrell

An unofficial Zep exists and can be DL from PD's missions

I will Upload the Zep as a stand alone.

Cheers,

Zepplin hunting become a bore very quickly, if you dig explosions, a couple rockets will do it, they will eat most of your bullets before they catch fire.

You can't land ON them, it's been tried

I used to enjoy flying 500 feet, above it and Bombing it from my SE5

A Zepplin was utilized in phase 1, not in 2, not planned in 3

Well I am not saying that all I want to do is hunt Zeps, but it sure would be nice to have Zeps in the game. I realize that they are big, slow moving bags of gas but they were used during WW1 and if your going all out to have things happen in the game as they did during the war, such as moving front lines and aircraft to fit the timeline, then you should have Zeps also.

Phase 1 The Zepplin files were on loan

Phase 2 was gonna be payware, and the guy wanted too big of a piece of the action

Phase 3 WILL be payware ( see above)

A Zepplin is a LOT of work, for the modellers ( they're overworked now ) :costumes:

Hi Guys,

Just a clarification on this comment, Greg did not want a big piece of the action, he didnt want anything, he simply didnt want his work used in a payware product. that was his right and the team respected that.

Zeppellin any where

Hi All,

Thank you Capt.Winters, AKA Rob, for clearing that up. I wasn't looking for a argument, it just seems that having a Zep in a WW1 sim game makes for an even better gaming experiance. I have seen videos of OFF3 on YouTube and I would have to say, all that are involved in this production have done some outstanding work. If I could I would build Zeps for the game, free or pay.
Thanks to British_eh for your help in my quest. I will start looking for the DL that you mentioned in your post. I am not sure how a stand alone model will work, but I will figure it out. In normal operation, wouldn't a Zep have fighter cover, say 6 to 8 planes?? That would make it harder to take down and even harder if the opposing force doesn't have rockets, yet.

Thank you for your time and help,
Darrell:wavey:

Zeppelins flew their missions to England unescorted - the distances were too great to allow accompanying fighters (remember that even in WWII, Messerschmitts in the BoB only had ten or twelve minutes over England before they had to return, and they were flying from Calais.) Zeppelins, after the first raids, relied on height and the cover of darkness for protection.

Hello,
having first ranted about the Zeppelins in phase 1 i began to miss them in Phase 2 - and after downloading it and installing it for phase 2 i say they are a must have - not only are they historically correct (well to be honest it is one well reported model Greg used, but this is really great), but they are a sight worth seeing. Flying it is not easy, especially landing is a problem, at least for me - i did not yet find out whether there is ballast to drop, or gas to vent, it seems the whole thing flies dynamically (CFS3 limitation?), and is hard to steer with slow reaction.

I think the badest thing is in every mission i saw they do not fly high, but not more than 2000-3000 feet "high", mostly below. So they give away there biggest advantage, altitude ... a "normal" plane would have needed almost an hour to even climb to 15. -18.000 feet, if at all.
As well flown by the AD (artificial dumbness) they try to behave like scout planes, going after you, but certainly failing because they are slow, big and lame.

If there is a Zeppelin mission it should show one or more Zepps going straight for a target, or observation area, at great heights, and then return in a straight line without trying to out-manoeuver a Nieuport at a 1000 feet.
Zeppelins with bombing missions would go in by night, unsighty weather at high altitude, and they would even add a lot of altitude after dropping the bombs.

The photo shows the L59, a naval airship that went to Africa to support Lettow-Vorbeck in East Africa. Unfortunately it had to return, but it would have well reached him. They were well below Karthoum when they received the order to turn back.

Greetings,

Hi catfish

YEP,I AGREE THAT THEIR HEIGHT WAS THEIR BIG ADVANTAGE BUT I DONT GIVE THEM THAT ADVANTAGE IN MY MISSION'S:costumes::costumes::costumes:.

WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET.

I WAS WELL AWARE OF THE REASONING IT WASN'T IN PHASE 2 BUT DIDN'T COMMENT. I THINK IF HE COULD INCLUDE IT AT REG'S HANGER IN THE GOTHA SECTION THEN ALL WHO WANT IT MAY STILL GET IT.

ON A PERSONEL BASIS I WOULD BE LYNCHED BY THE SQUADRON IF I DIDNT HAVE ONE OR TWO HIDEING SOMEWHERE LOL.

here here, but I think with over 100 missions posted Pd I'd hardly class yourself as not gifted.......sleep deprived maybe, but not lacking in the gift department :costumes:

Open Question for Rob, or any of the Developers

What are the chances of us ever getting back the needed files, for the Sopwith Dolphin, as I understand they took a walk, during the beginnings of OFF ?

More like the straight jacket dept.

Hi Gimpy,

unfortunately the Dolphin source file was lost, I have a 85% finished model from Davo, but its nowhere near being suitible for release.

To have the Dolphin now means a new model needs to be built from scracth. I dare say it will come sometime down the track in a patch/upgrade, but not in the immediate future.

regards Rob.
