Zeppelins from WW I

Hello dear Flightsimmers.
The Zeppelins LZ-114 and Dixmude are almost ready to upload. It took me more than five years, due to illness, to create this fabulous airships, which are in fact idedentical. Some historical remarks about their somewhat unknown fates:
LZ-114/L72 :The X-class zeppelins were the largest airships built during the first world war. Zeppelin Luftschiffbau, the building company, generally numbered its airships with the initials LZ, standing for "Luftschiff Zeppelin", to distinguish these types of fully tubular aluminum-framed airships from the competitor Schütte-Lanz [SL], whose airships were generally wooden composite constructions. The Zeppelins for the Imperial German Army first got the tactical callsigns starting with Z. During World War I they switched to using the LZ numbers. The Zeppelins destined for the Imperial German Navy were labelled from the beginning with the tactical callsigns starting with L. The LZ-114 was the third and final Zeppelin of the X class built for the Imperial German Navy with the tactical callsign L72. It was finished in late 1918, but due to the end of WWI, it's maiden flight was not until 9th February 1920. Shortly thereafter, it was ordered to be transferred to France in the context of war reparations.
Dixmude: In the context of war reparations the former german airship LZ-114 was handed over to France on 9 July 1920 and renamed Dixmude. The airship was grounded for the next three years, as several necessary modifications had to be done. The original gasbags were changed to more modern ones and an extra nacelle for ten passengers had been installed some meters behind the cockpit gondola. All of these works caused the aforementioned delay. After the it was airworthy again, this famous airship made the time longest flight in the history of aviation. The flight had lasted 118 hours and 41 minutes and covered 7,100 km (4,400 mi). After serveral other successful flights, the Dixmude exploded off the coast of Sicily during a thunderstorm on 21 December 1923, killing all 52 (42 crew and ten passengers) on board.
Both are already ready for FS 9, whereas I need doing some tests for FSX creating a suitable aircraft.cfg file.
The flight behaviorsin FS 9 are satisfying, so here are the first screenshots. Greets, Flyandy Andreas Becker

Great that you are up and running again, Andreas! And a good choice of subject. I think one thing I will do is put her in the air with TacPac and then escort her with your Junkers D.I

Best regards,

Stickshaker

Mainstream

Very impressive and great to see someone turning out a subject out of the mainstream!
:encouragement:

Thx wombat666 for you positive reaction.

Yeah, the mainstream has never been my favorite....and btw, the mainstream birds have all been already almost carried out.

TacPac

Hello Stickshaker.

Nice to read fromyou again. How's life going??

I'm about to power up my old rusty engine again. It's still stuttering....but it's hopefully good old german quality . So, at some point, he'll be running fully again. I've never believed that even
small things can switch off someone totally.

Anyhow, thanks for your compliments. More about this issue probably in a private message??

Great idea,to power up the airship with TacPac and use the D.I as escort/attack plane.........but how to do that??:dizzy: I've no idea. And it probably will also be a long way before finish it for FSX. As I wrote in my intro....the cfg.file for FSX is still not okay.:banghead:

The VC is still in progress at both FS variations and it's still more a 2D cockpit than as a 3D one.

2D cockpit is okay as you can see at the screenshot..............

Best wishes, Andy

Hello Andreas,

I am receiving visitors today but I'll mail you as soon as I can.

What I meant is that I can put your Zeppelin in the air with TacPac (just like any other plane) when I am flying the D.I. Then I can fly in formation. You don't have to change anything in the Zepp. The only snag is (I only realized that later) that the minimum speed with which you can let a plane fly in TacPac is 200 kts, so this idea won't work.

Best regards,

Hans

Hello Hans.

Like's now, it won't work, indeed. The Zeps have a max speed of about 65 kts. You could try it anyhow. I don't know TacPac and from where this program takes its information. Probably, it relies upon the aircraft.cfg file. These files can be changed ( but also easily messed up, haha ), so after I've finished the FSX versions of the Zeps, you could try it out.
But maybe, the following aircraft could suite as well to your needs. The Fokker F-36, I'm working on at the moment......Greetings,

Andreas

Andreas, I don't know how well you know flight models, but some years ago Bill Lyons did the Graf Zeppelin for FS9 and for the time it was amazing. If it was me, I'd find it (probably at FlightSim) and study his flight model to see how he did it. I've probably got it in a back up somewheres, but finding it could take a few days.

Hello Willy,
thanks for your friendly remark. The Graf Zeppelin is still available on FlightSim in two versions. It has been done for FS9 by Frank J. Petriccione. The flight dynamics had been done by Mr. Günter Kirchstein.
I'm using parts of the flight dynamics in the aircraft.cfg of my Zeppelins. But its not working for FSX Unfortunately, Mr. Kirchstein doesn't work anymore for the flight community. So I cannot rely on his infos anymore. But there's also the Hindenburg D-LZ129 for FS9 done by Chuck Jodry and the VJPL Flight Lab.
I tried some parts of these flight dynamics for the aircraft.cfg in FSX. The results are more satisfying, although still not good enough. Prpbably, I have to get in contact with Chuck Jodry for more information.
Anyhow, one fine day the Zeppelins will also be available for FSX.

Thanks for your help.

Greets from Belgium;

Andy
