• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

It's That Time Of Year Again

If you haven't already noticed the progress bar at the top of each page it is that time of year again. Yep that time for you to dig into your pockets and send any loose change to the SOH "2016 Charter Membership Drive". It is your contribution to this drive that keep the SOH afloat and the wonderful meeting place it is.

So please dig deep and help keep SOH afloat for another great year. Our target date is the first week of February.

Yes, i´d ask for the end date too, because this period my credit card is yet recovering from Christmas madness.... :monkies:

This year I had a little extra. It's not much, but hopefully it helps. You guys have provided excellent service and entertainment to me for many years, and I'm always happy to contribute.
 
Alright, just did my little contribution. Would contribute with more, but the dollar conversion here in my country is 4x: 1US$ = 4R$, so like US$20,00 = R$80,00. Wel...

I'm in again as I really appreciate 99.9% of what this community offers. I'm not too impressed with someone doing an impression of Robot number 5 from the movie " Short Circuit" but it takes all sorts I suppose.
 
first time online after my move to a new home, paying for the soh home. Money well spent in my opinion.
 
Gotta keep a roof over our collective sim heads for the next year! Will add some more shekels come payday.
 
I'm still trying to figure out how, on God's green earth, that SOH takes that much to survive each year. But, whatever...

I went back and re-read your post from January 27 of last year. I believe that it stated we have about 4,000 active members and the site was attempting to reach a goal of US$13,000.

I would suggest to the admins that perhaps it is time to consider a membership dues policy. If the annual membership dues were US$5 and (assuming) every active member paid, that would be $20,000 in the pot and should more than cover expenses at this point in time. If only $15,000 is spent in a year, everybody gets a $1 credit and dues are $4 next year.

I dunno but if members who own computer equipment, flight sim software, etc. can't kick in $5 per year for support and access, they're in the wrong hobby. That's about the cheapest annual rate of any pay-for-membership site that I am aware of.

Members like to run polls to vote for favorite aircraft, which ones they'd like to see and so forth. Perhaps it is time for a vote on a pay-for-membership [US$ X.00/per year due on January 1 of the new year] policy. Let everyone know when the due date is -- we are all smart enough to know to save $X prior to the date (I hope). I know I can afford $5 or thereabouts for a membership.

Just my $.02.
 
Maybe people that do not run web sites; plus forums have no clue what the cost can be.

The Free Flight Site alone cost is $25.00 US a month and it is tiny blip compared to the SOH.

They get $3.75 for a cup of coffee here. I can make my own for a week and donate the rest
to the SOH.

An unemployed Canadian family with a 65c dollar will have to wait till next year.. maybe. Thank you OPEC.
 
I always donate. And this year isn't a good one for me, as am soon to lose my job due to medical reasons. Gave a little as I do, and least will keep me entertained whilst sat at home, looking for something else to do!
