CFS2 New Install

Already installed CFS2 to default location. How do I do another separate install of CFS2 so I can install Vietnam Air War? I can't seem to do a separate install with the two game CDs. Any help would be appreciated

You can't run the reinstall process when the original is still active in the system registry. Temporarily rename the original install folder to "whatever". Copy it whole and paste the new next to the original. Now you have two installs side by side. Rename the original back to its exact original title and rename the new copy as "CFS2 Vietnam" or whatever. After you rename the new install folder, find the CFS2.exe file inside it and make a shortcut of it to the desktop. Name the shortcut as the theme of the new, ala "CFS2 Vietnam".

That's all the light work. The hard part is customizing by removing the unneeded WW2 planes and ships and installing a lot of the modern era items. Don't worry about removing the stock scenery for now, since the stock bases are all mid and SW Pacific and you'll never see them as long as you're busy in Southeast Asia. After you traverse the learning curve a bit more, you can delve into the process of removing these bases.

CFS New INstall

I figured as much but wasn't sure,so I'll have to do the file deletions bit by bit until I have the new folder where I want it. Thanx.

Unfortunately its not as simple as "file deletions bit by bit". After the stock aircraft are deleted from the AIRCRAFT folder, you have to delete their entries in the mdlnames.txt file (in the main CFS2 directory) and qc_plane.qcb file (located in the Quickcom subfolder). The mdlnames deletions are simple once you find the redundant entries, but the qc_plane.qcb is more complicated to hand edit. You have to know your way around it or you'll end up with numerous error messages when you boot the sim or go to fly in quick combat. A handy tool like Jsqced QC Editor can help with this. You'll find it a Simviation:http://simviation.com/1/download?file=JSQCEd.exe&fileId=31355 .

Deleteing ships is fairly straightforward...nothing to do beyond the deletions because these items are only called up by your WW2 era missions, which you'll not be using.

After all this is done you have to hand edit your qc_plane.qcb and country.cfg files to restructure them according to the nationalities of the Vietnam conflict - this is a critical step. At this point you're about to enter the "Twilight Zone"...:banghead:...much patience and attention to details will be required.
