Flight test report
I got two models more: MC202_CFS_MP_2W_FULL (mid production 2 weapons)
MC202_cfs_LP_4W_FULL (late production 4 weapons)
I couldnt see the textures working in this last model LP 4W FULL, perhaps i need the correct textures but i havent. Please check them for me.
Cheers
Mario
Hi Mario,
no problem: take all the time you need. This is an hobby, not a job!
I'll be attaching, or e-mail to you, all of the textures included in MVG3d's FS9 pack, including Expansion 1 and 2. If you prefer proceeding on your own, remember they all need to be converted as "16 bit extended 565" textures to work properly. Their DXT3 original format does not work in CFS2.
Reporting first tests:
Now the control surfaces and the rest of the animations, like undercarriage, cockpit canopy and radiator flap, work fine.
I used the flight model introduced by Captain Kurt in his recent repaint packs and this Folgore flies very well with them. I noticed an increase in top speed and the aircraft seems to have gained in overall manoeuvrability as well. We'll be crediting Captain Kurt for the Flight Model.
I fine-tuned the dp by mixing Capting Kurt's dp for the Folgore with entries from MVG3d's M.C.205 conversion, regarding gun data and muzzle flash positioning. Now we have two dp's: one for the early, lightweight M.C.202 armed with only two 12.7 mm. cowl machine guns and one with the late heavier interceptor type, armed with an additional pair of 7.7 mm. wing guns.
Unfortunately, we have here the same problem I witnessed when I worked on MVG3d's M.C.205 conversion.
When the aircraft starts its takeoff run, the undercarriage wheels jump in the air and disappear, only to return when the airplane leaves the ground. It has to do with contact points, I believe together with some other small code tweak in the mdl.
With the M.C. 205 the problem was cured by a joint effort from Dvslats and Allen.
It's not so bad as it was with the M.C.205, at least the M.C.202 wheels remain in place when taxiing around. With the M.C.205 they disappeared instantly as soon as the shock absorber animation started working.
This evening I will try the last thing I can do without working in Gmax, which I can't. Since the M.C.205 shares 98% of the M.C.202 hull, having only a lengthened and strengthened fuselage, I'll replace the original Folgore contact points from the FS9 pack with the ones Dvslats sent to me for the Veltro. I am almost 100% sure Italian Wings' M.C.205 was developed from their M.C.202, just like what happened historically.
Should the problem persist, we'll have to bug Allen to perform some of his usual magic. Alternatively Mario, since you work with Gmax, you could contact Allen and ask him what needs to be done to cure this obnoxious ghost wheels phenomena.

Once this bug is cured, the aircraft is 98% upload-ready, since there is no payload work to do on the Folgore and it was not operated by Regia Aeronautica with droptanks, contrary to many uploads I saw in the past. An error I made too years ago.
Thanks to the extensive documentation sent to me by MVG3d, I learned only co-belligerant Italian Air Force, after 09/08/1943 armistice, experimented with droptanks to extend range on the Folgores operating in the Balcans alongside with the Allies. But they were just makeshift experiments, not a standard practice.
M.C. 202 was not cleared for carrying bombs, it was regarded as a pure fighter, much like the BoB Spitfire MkIA or Bf109E-4. The M.C.205 was instead provided with hardpoints to carry droptanks and bombs, but the only air force which deployed Veltros in ground-attack roles was the Royal Egyptian Air Force during the first, post WWII Arab-Israeli conflict.
I'll attach here everything tomorrow.
