Milviz F-4J Blue Angels Interest?

Any interest in a repaint of the Milviz F-4J in the colors of the Blue Angels? The number 7 is pictured but all the tail numbers have been done.

Ok, she will be uploaded by later today or early tomorrow. Thanks for the interest. This will be the standard number 7 aircraft with a second download of all the tail numbers. You can change aircraft number by substituting the tail texture.

Both the Milviz F-4J Blue Angels number 7 and the companion all tail numbers textures are uploaded. Enjoy!!

Tom, got a quick question. I see your repaint doesn't have the silver/chrome leading edges on the wings and intakes. I've seen photos that seem to indicate that there were variations to that type of demarcation, possibly some periods that there were no silver/chrome leading edges (wing and intakes) but the other periods where they did. Some where the entire topside of the leading edge flaps were chrome (& partial underside) and others that seemed to have a thin strip of the chrome on the leading edges. Do you know the story behind these variations?

StormILM, really glad you asked the question. The chrome leading edge was something that presented a problem for me. I looked at many pictures of the Blues flying the F-4 with about half showing the chrome and the other half painted. No doubt there is a story that maybe someone can bring to light. Dave S sent me an email detailing the blue color of the Blue's F-4. The pictures in the link show the blue color to be FS 15052. This was a much darker color than previous and later aircraft. The F-4's were almost black at a distance. The problem I had is many of my pictures in the sun show a much lighter color. Such is the problem, what is the real color. I prefer to paint my known numbers. Recently while painting for payware company the project manager mentioned to paint from the pictures as time and age changes to color.

The reason I mention the about is it could be possible that the chrome leading wing edge could be linked to the color differences in time. Maybe when changing from the darker color to a lighter one those aircraft had the chrome leading edge. If Dave S reads this maybe he has the answer. Thanks for asking the question. Could be that other painters here will have the answer as well.

I am working on the Blue Angels #4 (NO153085). It wasn't easy to determin which color to use for the base blue. I've chosen a deep blue color. There are many illustartions and some photos of this one, and most of them shows chrome leading edges.
BUT, when studying images and illustrations of the Blue Angels F-4J, you will find several variations of blue/yellow and aircraft with/without chrome leading edges. So there is no easy answer to what is right.

I've not published my livery yet, as I am trying to get a more shiny surface on her (so far not succeeded).

Anyway - nice work on the #7 Tom! :encouragement:

I like how the panel stencils don't seem to show thru. I tried using GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome.dds to see if I could get a bit more gloss effect. See for yourself.
I also notice that the blivits are a shade of blue off from the rest of the aircraft.

Over all, I like it Tom. :encouragement: Should the AIM9's be white?

The Blue Angels F-4 didn't carry such load :adoration:. They were normally clean. In some photos I've seen them with 4 sparrows (2 blue in front and 2 yellow rear)

I know you are correct on the load out. They normally just carried smoke pods that looked like the AIM7 sparrow (loaded in same stations as AIM 7). I remember helping to load one of the yellow
smoke pods when they were at then NAS Miramar. I guess the FSX load manager could change that maybe?

I took the liberty of removing the stripes/markings from the yellow painted Sparrow bodies to more closely match the look of the way they were. I recall some photos showing the Sparrow bodies being split colors (the front pair being gloss blue and the aft pair being yellow) but some photos show all 4 being yellow. Users, just drop this into the texture.TS_Blue Angels folder and overwrite when prompted.

This is what your sparrow mod looks like. Thanks.
