Work Continues on the RDAF camo... Engine exhaust still not to my liking...Pilot helmet and some smaller items remain.

Really enjoying the camo F-100s. I remember being on my way from a leave period in metro Detroit, following basic training at Lackland AFB, to my first base outside Topeka, KS. I had a little layover in St Louis, MO before Bugsmasher Airlines picked me up and stuffed me, with my duffel, in the back of a C-172 and flew me out to the Topeka airport. While waiting in St Louis I recall seeing at least one camo-painted F-100 take off, its AB flame blasting the runway beneath and behind it. That was the first USAF aircraft I had seen since completing basic, and it dawned on me at that moment - "I'm finally on the inside looking out, not outside looking in. That is MY service." While it may not sound like much now, it was a rather profound moment then and remains in my memory to this day.
 
Just my observation/opinion on the national markings weathering. The gloss or semi gloss paint used on them weathered better than the rougher flat cammo paint but it did weather. Much of it not being paint deterioration but just grime from maintenance and other environmental factors .
I personally would avoid having such a contrast that they stand out unnaturally. Kind of like when you built models and tried to paint the eye on the figures, it may be the way it was but if the end result looks unnatural then you defeat your purpose. I am not referring to any specific repaints here, just my observation over the years when decals or squadron markings are left shiney and with vivid colors on a nicely weathered cammo scheme and it ruined the effort.

Edit to add,-- never in a million years would I have thought there would be such interest in the Hun, I thought I was about the only one. It has been great to see I was mistaken.

Gawd ! imagine the attention MV would get if the next project was the F-105 Thunderchief ... CORE BLIMEY ! :adoration:
