FSX Screenshots Here!!

Time off from the linework to add other details.
Working around the 'unpaintables' is a bit of a pain...;)

Very nice Paul!
You really are a masochist but in a good way!:encouragement:

But I can assure you that your efforts are heighly appreciated. Unfortunately I do know the frustration of putting a lot of effort in creating a paintkit and halfway realiase that you can't do what you would like to do as the texture lay out doesn't allow it.......

But so far you have really done an incredible job! Are you working at the bottom side as well or is that still a challenge to face?

Thanks,
Huub

Yes....this is the fourth or fifth Paintkit I've done...but really only the first where no kit existed before....not even an unlayered bitmap. All I had was 'da plane' ....and that was plain black [mostly].

Usually chasing lines across segments of a mapped image isn't all that bad ... but strangely this one has sections which are either plumb...1/2, 1 or even 2 degrees out of whack ....possibly just a fitting issue on the 1024 square.

I've managed to chase a few lines around the whole plane...not all that simple when there are 10 bits which aren't necessarily parallel, but I've since found a walk-around site so am adding details along with more lines.... and once I have them all OK I can do the bump map [it has one of those....only no spec - that's in the model settings].

Hardest part left is to try to 'fudge' some form of normal 'gloss' [other than spec shine].

Here's how it is at the latest...slightly darker green too....;)

Here's an example of how 'quirky' the paint layout is.... the top bits of the front and middle rails of the canopy frame...are mapped onto the bottom of the plane. The rear-most rail 'top' is where it should be...on the top map.

It would but I've not done any:biggrin-new:

Funny you mention the RAF Sea Kings.. I've had a look at loads recently and most look remarkably free of exhaust soot!

Tried your rename suggestion, but got a totally black fuselage, with a few coloured fittings!:banghead: A little too much soot perhaps?:biggrin-new:
Ref to RAF Sea Kings, maybe they use a stronger washing detergent than the RN!:very_drunk:

What the hell did you do??:dizzy: In the 709 folder, there should be SH_01.dds, SH_02.dds, SH_03.dds, SH_04.dds.. a swatch file, thumbnail and texture.cfg. Just add ns (no soot) to SH_01.dds (SH_01ns.dds).. do the same for 02 and 04 then drop the 3 files in the zip into the same folder.

With the 209th screencap used in generating a 4096 paintkit [yes, 209] ... I'm getting 'close' after discovering the undercarriage doors don't match the real animal. The underside has been an even bigger pain than expected.... the nose wheel doors taper in 0.5 degrees each side.....grrr

Maybe a bit more to do ...and brush up on my crylic for more text ...and I can get to the bumps...;)

PS....anyone know where I can get the 'ideal' font/s ... as all the text so far [except for the Russkie 'no step' - I cheated with that...it's arial with the 'N' and 'R' manually reversed] has been 'extracted' from photos.

The U/C bays and inners of the doors etc have to be all white...all grey...all whatever...as they are defined in the model - not painted.

Before and after shots....now with bumps ...but details still need tweaking.
Most obvious model 'mods' via MDLMat are the exhaust valences and canopy glass - both darker.
The model has no gloss...only spec shine which I dulled down a tad.
The original paint was only 1024 res so was always going to be fuzzy. 4096 cures that...;)

Tim 'Piglet' Conrad's SAAB J21.

Cheers,
Huub

Great pics!

I have always loved Tim's J-21, it was one of the earliest addons I ever installed in to flight simulator, probably the second or third. The first was Tim's AN-32. The J-21 is perfect for sightseeing, being a stable platform with no pesky prop in the way.

Cheers,
