A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: Bismark13-Peperez Bristol Bombay Mk1 by UncleTgt

This is a revamp of William Dicken's (Bismark13) Bristol Bombay Mk1 for CFS 2. This is a complete aircraft.

The airfile was developed in partnership with Peperez, who also helped me with a new 2D and VC panel. The VC panel no longer gives you a CTD, although you lose the VC cockpit window sills (they were modelled to the same material). The 2D panel is WIN 7 Safe.

The dp was improved by me, & includes kelti exhaust effects & historical payloads.

Weapons used are: Groundcrew Bomb Racks & 50lb bombs, Pstranys 120lb & 250lb bombs from his Hudson weapons pack. I also added a payload of Paratroops (these small paratroops developed from Jim Jacobsens originals & included in my enhancement package for Shessi's revamp of Ted Cook's Whitley MkV). The Bombay was the aircraft used by the SAS on their first (unsuccessful) operation in the Western Desert, November 1941.

The repaints are drawn from scratch, with new panel line & rivet detail.

The aircraft are: 271 Squadron RAF, France, May 1940. In Dark Earth/ Dark Green/ Aluminium camouflage. Used to deliver supplies to the BEF in France, they were soon involved in evacuating personnel back to England.

216 Squadron RAF, Western Desert February 1941. Quickly moved out the Western Desert, part of the early operations involved bombing raids as well as transport flights. In Dark Earth/ Mid Stone/ Med Blue camo.

216 Squadron RAF, Western Desert, November 1941. Used for night ops, this aircraft carried RAF Night undersides. It was also used for Operation Squatter, 16-NOV-41, the SAS first operation behind enemy lines.

1st Australian Air Ambulance, Italy October 1943. Carrying prominent Red Cross markings & Type C insignia, used for CASEVAC missions across the Italian front.

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

Thanks to: William Dickens for a great aircraft.

Peperez for help with the airfile, & the creation of new panel configurations that work.

Kelticheart for his exhaust effects, & inspiration for the propeller bitmaps.

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions.

John,

I have enjoyed flying this ever since you sent it to me for testing! :wavey:

Andrew,

The airfile received a couple of tweaks in the last few days before upload that you might like. The prop curves have been changed so you get better flight attitude in the cruise, along with closer to historical range, & the (seldom used) long range ferry tanks were added & a new payload created to match. You may not have the most up to date panel either, it's been through a few tweaks as well.

Yessir!

Another masterful demo about how a nice dress makes a whole world of difference! (I think I am quoting my hon.... :biggrin-new:)

THANK YOU, JOHN!
:applause: :applause: :applause:
Cheers!
KH

P.S.: Thank you also for replacing the original hideous wheel rim texture!!!!

Aircraft initialization failure loading Mk.1 1AAU RAAF OCT43

Hi Guys!

First of all, thanks for this wonderful package. As always, nicely done!

However, I am having a problem getting the sim to load the Mk.1 1AAU RAAF OCT43.

Whenever I hi-lite the Mk.11 AAU RAAF OCT43 as an AC choice I get no image in the review pane. Whatever image was already there just freezes. If I go ahead and click "OK" anyway, I get the attached message. After clicking "close" the sim loads up with the last loaded AC. The three other Bombays load up with no problems.

Several times I have totally deleted, re-downloaded and re-installed WD-PEPE_Bombay_revamp_UT.zip each time with the same result.

Was ist los? :kilroy:

Cheers,
MR

PS: I am running the sim on an XP-Pro rig, if it matters.

Problem solved!

I opened up the aircraft.cfg file and gave it a once over.

The panel line for the Mk.1 1AAU RAAF entry contained "Achim". Got rid of that and all is well.

MR

maybe I should do less painting & more testing ...:cower::173go1:

Good catch MR :applause:

Naah. I'm happy to play around with it!

What I usually do with these multi-plane packs like the Bombay, to help keep my plane-count within limits, is to pick out the one, maybe 2 versions that I want to keep on hand and then edit-out the others from the aircraft.cfg file. In this case the only one I really wanted to keep was the RAAF version but for the life of me I couldn't make it happen! Wasn't til I had a little closer of a look that I noticed the problem. So I'm in there messing around with things anyway.

Thanks again for the package.
MR

PS: I also go into the panels of every newly installed AC and dump every single window except the main window and the VCs and then add in an ACS/GPS-based navigation window of my own. I also dump the sound folder (if there is one) into my AC Sounds directory and alias it. Many times I'll likewise dump/alias the panel folder to my AC Panels directory- after I am done tweaking it. So, like I said, I'm messing around with things anyway.

Interesting aside. If you look at this smiley just right, it appears to be a brown liquid pouring into a brandy-snifter. It's kinda one of those Rorschach sorta deals. Hint: it might be easier to see when one doesn't have one's glasses on.

Okay! I think it's time we stepped away from the alcohol, I'm sure there's some airfield research we should be doing ... :costumed-smiley-034

Must be all that fast & loose Beaufighter flying you've been doing, time to get back to the Low & Slow ...:running:

LOL!

Yes. You're right. I'm, ah... , feeling more myself now.

It looks nothing like brown liquid pouring into a brandy snifter.

MR

TBH, I'd like an emoticon depicting a Brandy snifter we could use down here - man cannot live on foamy beers alone (although we'll give it a bloody good try!):ernaehrung004:
