I just saw this model on a Facebook page called Tailored Radials. Looks quite promising.

Caribou? Still have the payware Alphasim version and fly it from time to time.

Yep, and if I read correctly, the modeler is building multiple versions of it and has some first hand references for the work. I have in recent years found a number of models in build on pages like this that ended up stalling while in development or disappearing altogether but hopefully this model will come to fruition down the road.

Yes, someone had a very promising C-123K project going a few years ago that stalled.
What makes me a bit sceptic about these current projects here is that they are for DCS. Porting them to FSX would mean a lot of gauge and other programming work for porting them to FSX/P3D.

Cheers,
Mark

Got an email back from Kieran...

My question to him. "What sims are you porting these models to... DCS, FSX, P3Dv3, etc.?"

His reply...

"Hey mate. DCS and P3D. Thanks"

I would think that a Caribou (or C-123) would be better suited in FSX/P3D rather than DCS. Reason being that they are unarmed and unable to fight back in a combat sim environment. I simply can't see such a model making a dent in the DCS market for that reason. I could be wrong but I know I wouldn't bother with it in DCS. It will be a while before it's finished and a lot could change between now & then.

Update, the Dev advised me directly that there will be an FSX/P3D version of the Bou and other models. He noted to expect new info on this soon.

DCS needs to get going on some 70's-80's era USN jets and carriers....

I agree. They are slowly getting new models into the mix but hopefully more will be finished soon. I am planning on getting the F-5E when it comes out next month.

I am chomping at the bit for a DHC-4 Caribou for P3d!!!
I wonder where Kieran is getting his data and referances from? If in Oz HARS would be the best.
I really hope she is perfect?
I grew up around these aircraft and my father has 2500hrs logged flying them. She is truly an amazing aircraft!
Thank you Kieran for taking on this project.

I remember when the US Army still had them. One of my best friends was a member of the Golden Knights back in the 70's. He still claims the Caribou was the best Jump bird he ever jumped from (both as a Golden Night and during his time in the Special Forces).

I'm sure our australian friends will also love a new Caribou! There is some amazing footage from OZ on youtube about this agile aircraft:

Can't wait to put it down on some barren Laos outpost airstrip!

Cheers,
Mark

It realy seems that P3D is going to be the way to go if I want to keep up with releases, but it worries me a bit on how fractured everything is becoming, FSX normal, FSX steam, P3D and XPlane and the new dovetail? one that is in trainer form but going to be released full down the track if I remember correctly.. but whatever.. that still is a nice looking model
