Modern Ships?

Hello

Is anyone aware of any more modern ship types being developed for CFS2? Looking for container ships, rear-superstructure bulkers/tankers and the like.

I recall seeing a straight conversion of some of Ian Thatcher's simple FS2004 container ships a while back in my travels but I can't seem to locate them now.

Thanks!

Thanks - just figured it was worth asking. For the life of me I don't recall where I saw those models but it's got to be years ago and I'm sure whatever site they were on is long since offline.

If you're familiar with the converter MDLC,

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the model converter. I've had some "success", if you can call it that, in making CFS2-native AI vehicles and ships "driveable" by Frankenstein-ing DP's of existing models, but converting FS04 or even FS02 craft for use in CFS2 by similar means has never worked. I suppose its time to give the MDLC another look!

MDLC won't work on Win 7 or newer by it self. Being a 16bit program it has to be ran though some kind of emulator like DOS Box. I wrote a tut on using MDLC with DOS Box. If you need that tut let me know.

Sorry to button in here, there are so many great CFS2 addons that I would like in my FS2004.

Is it a matter of just adding the missing entries into the aircraft.cfg, or is there some dark art involved as well.

I installed that amazing B17 with canard's into my FS2004, and it ended up looking as a tail dragged when I loaded it, with its nose in the air.

Any ideas, suggestions or help?

Have a great weekend all,

Cheers,
Robin

First all converting is an dark art of some kind. :encouragement:

Have never gone from CFS2 to FS04 but I have read about it and add missing entries into the aircraft.cfg seem to be what is needed most of the time.

When you converted to FS04 did you use the aircraft.cfg from and FS04 B-17? CFS2 [contact_points] should work in FS04. If you didn't change the [contact_points] from those I made for the canard B-17 make sure that the nose gear is still there by taking off IF you can or landing.

If the gear is still there maybe you can shift the empty_weight_CG_position forward.

Here is the the Install and Tutorial will walk you through installing DOSbox and converting FS2002/FS2004 aircraft to CFS2. CFS2 ship model format is the same as an CFS2 aircraft. With ships you can skip the Animation fix and Collision bubble as ships don't use that.

If you need help feel free to hit me up.

Awesome, thanks. I'll get to fiddling!

Yeppers, I have tons of static object ships in api format if you are interested in them,

Dave

Yeah sure!

John and Rick,
Be sure to let me see what you do with some of those ships, I have some FSDS source files for some,
If you should want them,

Dave
