New CFS2 Avenger

TBF Avenger VT-20.zip

219114797648535873.jpg

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - American

Description: WF TBF Avenger VT-20 for CFS2 by Wolfi

This is the seventh upload of my TBF Avenger Model

IMPORTANT: I included a Weapons pack and a Gauges pack only in the first upload “WF TBF Avenger VT-19." So the “WF TBF Avenger VT-19” is required if you miss any gauges or weapons for this model.

The model contains 3 LOD (levels of detail) models and a Virtual cockpit. At first, it had a shadow model, but I deleted it. Special thanks go to Captain Kurt for his help, making the textures, DP, airfiles, and the 2D cockpit. I know this is a lot of work also!

I have to say thank you to Stefano “Kelticheart” who made the blurred prop texture. He didn’t make it especially for this model, (initially it was for the Vultee Vengeance) but it fits this aircraft also.

So Thanks Kelti, and recover soon…

Thank you Wolfi for your lovely TBF-1. I am using it as a warbird AI in fs2004 and it works very very well. Will there be a paint kit for it or will there be a 3 tone pacific paint without insignas/markings so that I can paint insignas on it?

Wolfi,
From a specific modelling aspect, the upper pilot canopy curved glass is very nice, and the intricate and detailed turret is just superb..love it!

Cheers

The still-to-be-posted stock TBF replacement is a generic 3 color scheme. It has the national insignias but no unit markiings.

This is rather interesting concerning the TBF Avenger Mk 1:

The Avenger was also used by the Roayal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, where it was initially known as the "Tarpon". However, this name was later discontinued and the Avenger name used instead, as part of the process of the Fleet Air Arm universally adopting the U.S. Navy's names for American naval aircraft. The first 402 aircraft were known as Avenger Mk 1, 334 TBM-1s from Grumman were the Avenger Mk II and 334 TBM-3 the Mark III. An interesting kill by a Royal Navy Avenger was the destruction of a V-1 flying bomb on 9 July 1944. The much faster V-1 was overtaking the Avenger when the Telegraphist Air Gunner in the dorsal turret, Leading Aircraftman Fred Shirmer, fired at it from 700 yards. For this achievement, Shirmer was mentioned in dispatches on 31 August 1944 and awarded the DSM on 21 July 1945.
(Fleet Air Arm archives, Roll Of Honours, TAGS. Retrieved: 23 November 2016 from http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/rollofhonour/Index.html).

This is a mission possibly worth building........:triumphant:

Thanks Rams.

You know me, I like challenges.

Shooting down a V-1 from the rear turret gunner position of an Avenger.........

Did anyone make a cockpit view with functional guns for the TBF?
I'm not sure the modding the DP in the Avenger and making more accurate rear guns would do it.
Besides, being in the actual turret and testing our skills against a V-1 would be the "bomb"!!

The new cockpit panel does have a turret view to the rear. (Now there is a view that could do with a Gaucho makeover - I don't think I did that great a job of it)

Unfortunately though, it isn't possible to do anything except shoot straight to the rear.

Captain and Wolfi

I am more than thrilled with your work on the TBF. It is outstanding. I am using it extensively with Talon's USMC Guadalcanal campaigns. However, I noticed you left off the map, throttle, etc. icons in the panel. I added these to my TBFs. I also added the compass icon, and a autopilot using stock icons. These additions are in Window01=main panel. My autopilot is in Window04, using the Radio_stack icon. Listed below is the panel.cfg with my additions. Hope this is useful.

Braveheart (Mack McDonald)

The Stock ATBF venger Replacement is up

The only difference is the DP file, the first 5 entries match the 5 entries of the stock Avenger!
Older campaigns or mission doesn’t have to be reworked if the Stock Avenger is used in the campaign or mission.

CFS2 TBF_AVENGER Stock replacement.zip

807114799322169234.jpg

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - American

Description: The TBF_Avenger Stock replacement for CFS2 by Wolfi.

This model was made to replace the CFS2 Stock TBF_Avenger.

The only difference is the DP file, the first 5 entries match the first 5 entries of the stock Avenger, so older campaigns or mission doesn’t have to be reworked if the Stock Avenger is used.

IMPORTANT: I included a Weapons pack and a Gauges pack only in the first upload “WF TBF Avenger VT-19” ! So the “WF TBF Avenger VT-19” is required if you miss any gauges or weapons for this model

He didn’t make it especially for this model (initially it was for the Vultee Vengeance) but it fits this aircraft also.

So Thanks Kelti, and recover soon…

Lee,

I could have sworn UncleTgt did a skin representing that aircraft for the OH model.

I don't want to hijack the thread.
I did this paint for Allen's Avenger MkII. there were small vis differences for the FAA Avengers, and Allen captured these differences.

Braveheart (Mack McDonald)

Hi Mack

Thanks for the compliment.

Actually, I didn't even consider using icons, fuel dump, auto pilot, etc. because the TBFs did not historically have them. But of course that's one of the really nice things about CFS2; you can easily modify a lot of it to suit what your preferences are.

I'm curious though as to why you added duplicate trim tab controls to those that are in the throttle panel and a compass display toggle when the whiskey and DG compass are in the panel. Are the original instruments not working for you? Please let me know if there is a problem.

Panel Reply

Hi Captain Kurt

First, I am not having any trouble with the panel except to change the turret bmp from 1024 to 1020 ( I am running Windows 10). I regularly add the autopilot that Kelti provided in his KM P-40Ev5 prop and panel update. This is used in conjunction with the Concorde!Compass_display to keep me on course. It is about 8 degrees off, but I have learned to compensate for this. Also the Kelti autopilot fits in the lower right hand side of the panel. I like to keep the upper right hand side open for the course map.

I also like to just fly around and enjoy and observe the airplane and the terrain in free flight. A autopilot helps me do that. But I digress.

As a trained Military Historian, I understand your desire to stay historically correct on the TBF so I added the map, throttle, and compass icons to your panel. The auto pilot was added verbatim from the source mentioned above, and duplicated many of the gauges you used.

I hope this will answer your question

Wolfi, et al.....

....THANK YOU! for the wonderful TBF's. :applause: I seem to have a problem thought. It must be that none of my pilots have requaled with the planes because I seem to have a lot of empty seats! Any particular volunteers that I should seek to fly these "flying coffins"?

That's a new one on me....

:encouragement:. I was just used to the old style where in the previews everyone has already boarded and taken their seats.:adoration:
