USAAF P-40K Warhawks

Thanks for these wonderful new models and skins! :applause:

Last year, after reading an encyclopaedia of aircraft of WWII, I got enthused by the diversity of warhawks and wrote an ETO campaign using a chronological sequence of different models. I had to really scratch and cobble together some of the important variants.

Now all your recent work means I can revisit the campaign with a much better toolbox :jump:

yes that is my intention. I would also like to include some of Ndicki's warhawks in my MAW 1943 Sicily campaign. But getting MAW campaigns to work in 1943 takes a lot more work - not enough vehicles with 1943 availability (so I need to include modified vehicle and aircraft xdps to change service dates), need to get country.xml right so that you get the full array of FAA ships spawning, etc etc. So the ETO warhawks will probably see the light of day first.

Hi ndicki, I love your work. You are largely correct, however there were one or two early evaluation squadrons, enough for me to explore some "what if" scenarios.

For example, the RAF took over some French orders (Hawk 81A-1s) early in the war from November 1940 onwards. As you mention, these examples are pre the P40E model. Then there were some Tomahawk MkIIBs brought into Britain in the second half of 1941. I include this model flying for Britain in my ETO campaign.

Apparently a few Kittyhawks were brought into Britain for evaluation (eg AL229), although virtually all of the lend-lease later Hawk 87 variants went to the Middle East.

I love some of the USAAF skins for the later warhawks, so some of them may get lost, maybe fly up from southern France, and end up in my ETO campaign as well :biggrin-new:
 
True, the RAF did use Tomahawks from February 1941 for about a year in some cases, but only No.403 Squadron actually used them - or rather tried to use them - in the fighter role. Only a tiny handful of P-40Es were brought to the UK, really only so as to write the Pilots Notes and so on. Many of those seen in Dark Green/Dark Earth camouflage are actually RCAF or RNZAF aircraft that have been misidentified.

Anyway, I've just uploaded 7 USAAF P-40Ks and one late P-40E in two packages...

Every single P-40 sounds great!:biggrin-new: But seriously, these are really bringing a very forgotten aircraft (in CFS3 at least) to life, well done.

And we haven't finished! We're trying to do one or two representative aircraft for each situation, which is far from easy. As usual, there are very few photos worth studying, and lots of profiles... And what we've found here is exactly what we found when we did the rework of the late Bf109s, namely that profile artists cannot be trusted to do the research, generally feed off each other, copy the mistakes other artists have made and don't bother to go to photo sources that are the only ones you can trust...

We've still got RCAF and VVS P-40Ks to do...
 
To use the Dynamic Reticles for the aircraft in these packages add this line to the effects section of the xdp file:
