Catapult Question

Ghostrider

Charter Member 2012
I am not able to launch a fully loaded SB2C off of my Essex Class CVs. I think I need some sort of catapult assist deal for a little more airspeed. I know some different ones have been done - what do you guys use - any recommendations?

Thanks,

GR

TR's your source...

CFS2 GREEN GHOST GAUGE CATAPULT
or
DB_F4U4B_Corsair for CFS2...CATAPULT VERSION

Just:
1. Add the gaugexx=DAP_FSUIPC!Catapult, 514,349,10, ...to the panel.cfg/[Window00] at the end of the stack and change the "xx" to the next sequential number.

2. Add the "FSUIPC.dll" and "FSUIPC.ini" files to the MODULES folder.

3. Drop the "catapult.cfg" into the specific A/C folder and edit it to read:

50 Ft per sec acceleration // 30kts
; 59 Ft per sec acceleration // 35kts
; 150 Ft per sec acceleration // 89kts
0 degrees rotate aircraft (not read by hurricat)

which will give you ~ a 90' 70kt hydraulic cat launch. (so you can spot on the bow cats.)

Use the WEP once to fire, ...then it works normal from then on.

I'm sure TR will fill in all the holes I have dug...(w/ me in'em...)

Thanks TR

Whose Essex and what is her speed? Are you set up to start on the fantail? If you are not afraid of adding more non-stock stuff, try Collin's long hull Essex class ;)

I have'em all, ...and they are great.

...but my system won't push two(2) or three(3) of'em in a CG in a 60+ A/C CAP/intercept or escort/attack mission. (neither will Usio's stuff)

My next box will get the Naval upgrade.

In the mean time, ...the stockers w/ a new coat 'o' paint will due...

Attack:
Usually set-up on the starboard cat, ...w/ ~ 20-30kts of headway...

CAP/Escort:
I'll roll from the fan-tail, ...then use the cat for the re-fuel/re-arm launch.

It's all of the ships I've tried - I'm using Collin's Yorktown '44. She's making 30 knots directly into a 15g25 Kt headwind. The tailwheel is at the extreme aft end of the flight deck. Parking brakes on, 3 notches of flaps, full throttle, water injection engaged. When I plunge off of the flight deck into the ocean, my speed show about 85-90 knots. That's including 30 knots of speed from the ship. Plus you've got 15+ knots of wind. I should have an apparent wind of 45+ knots under my wings before I even release the brakes. It seems like the payload is just too heavy. I've tried with Heavy Bombs 1 and Heavy Bombs 2 payloads, same results. Tried 1, 2, and 3 notches of flaps. She'll take off empty just fine, but as soon as I load bombs, splash. Any ideas?

BTW, I don't have this problem with any other aircraft or payloads...

Thanks Guys,

GR

Hey Fellas, Blue Devil's Cat reccomendation works like a champ - just don't forget to release the parking brakes before firing the cat, or it's kind of embarrassing! (End over end, splash!) Thanks for all the help!

Hi All
I know this is a bit old but what is the significance of this line.
0 degrees rotate aircraft (not read by hurricat)
Cheers

catapult

Hi Stuart

this is a line in the catapult.cfg

0 degrees gives a launch in line wth the vessel ( straight over the bow )

90 degrees will give launch to starbord at right angles to the vessel

180 degrees launches straight over the stern

270 degrees launches to port

actually you can set any angle - useful for launching seaplanes off cruisers etc

was this what you wanted ?

Hi Baldy
Thanks for the reply.
This is what I was after {launching off a BB)

Unfortunately, it is not working?

I have this in the catapult folder

150 Ft per sec acceleration
270 degrees rotate aircraft (not read by hurricat)

270 should have the aircraft facing port.
It still faces forward.
In fact, I can put in any number but the aircraft faces forward.

Perplexing!

Cheers
Stuart

catapult

Hu Stuart

what aircraft are you trying to launch?

the catapult.cfg should be in the aircraft folder not in a folder within the aircraft folder

the panel.cfg of your aircraft must include a line like this

gaugexx=DAP_FSUIPC!Catapult, 175,409,10,12 otherwise nothing is going to happen ( this is GreenGhost's catapult gauge )

the aircraft air file must have WEP ( open with AirEd )

Line 505 cfs piston engine

Emergency power type=3

I hope this helps

Is there a way to get rid of the "Catapult Lauch" text slowly crossing the screen from right to left when using the catapult feature?
