SimWorks Studios F-4B Phantom II

Alex, et al,
Absolutely superb work with both the Phantom and the Coral Sea - the configurator - what a fantastic idea.

Probably too late - but if you are bringing VF-154 (F-8's) to Coral Sea, is there an outside chance you might throw a Whale or two in there? The 65 cruise had VAH-2 (Heavy 2) with 9 aircraft and this cruise signified the first use of the A-3 in combat (against some lightly defended targets - Bach Long Vi island for example) - but still the first. Understand if that is a huge hold up, but meant to chime in a few months back. Regardless, this is eagerly anticipated.

All the best.

Hello Deke,

We know that we owe some A-3s to the Coral Sea. The problem with them is that the model works fine in FSX with the current 71 aircraft, but we are at the very limit of what FSX can properly display.

The answer is no for v1.0 as it is long overdue and the focus is on ironing out the F-4B/N's last bugs.
Work on the Coral Sea will continue because it will be included in the Midway class package as well ( contains 1965 and 1973 Coral Sea, 1973 Midway). If FSX allows us to squeeze the whales while working on the stand-alone package, we will update the F-4 ship as well. The 1965 ship model that comes with the F-4 will be identical to the one in the stand-alone pack and future updates will keep them on par.

It's all very impressive, and very easy to configure to suit yourself. It's nice that every aircraft is uniquely numbered. How often do you see that?
The CAG bird is going to lose some paint, though.

Thanks for the quick reply, Alex. Completely understand. This is going to be a beauty! I'm in for it all!

Cup holders as well. What more could you want?

Wow!
Those cockpits are fantastic! The LRU-9 and LRU-10 look very accurate! I know, I used to work on them. Just wondering, does the radar actually work, or just eye-candy? Just wondering :)
In addition to the cup-holders in the rear cockpit, the RIOs used to use a couple of the less used cards in the LRU-11, under the left side-panel, as ashtrays. For both regular cigarettes, as well as the more "herbal" variety, if you see what I mean. Royal pain to clean out. Of course, some of the RIO's also used them as barf-bags, which was by far worse!
Thanks for posting the update!

Radar works if you have Tacpack. It locks on targets and guides Sparrows to them. Really satisfying when the whole process results in a fireball and you fly by it.

I don't believe you're looking for that level of realism, but I could be wrong.....

Dave

LoL!
No, no, that's something I could well do without ever seeing again.
Just a historical note, to show that not all is as geat in the back cockpit as one may think :D

I was enlisted (AME), and worked on Phantoms. My experiences in the back seat were for a few rides, and they were incredible! Obviously different, as I just rode for fun - in Phantoms at NATC, but man, oh man...what a blast!!!! NC:encouragement:

Had you been talking USAF, I would have raised the BS Flag.

I'm not familiar with USN "operations".

Gene K

You would be surprized at what we pulled pulled out of the LRU-11.
Not fun for us (I-Level Radar shop, W/C 630), and Corrosion Control hated seeing them come in from us. We had to strip in down for them, and that could prove to be a most unpleasant evolution :D
Whether any of what we found in that thing was "authorized" or "approved", that I can't say. It was a different time, back then...

I always prefer those Bright 1960's 1970's paint schemes , they simply look the part ! a real coulourful navy .

I agree, Ian. Nothing like the traditional gray on top, white on the bottom with a colorful squadron paint job. The CAG (Air Wing Commander) paints are even more colorful. I understand the purpose of the low-vis tactical paint but it makes for a very boring looking jet.
